Day 1 Concludes; Ressler Leads

Level 8 : 300/600, 0 ante

Day 1 of Event 26: $3,000 Pot-Limit Omaha has concluded and it was a fun day on the felt. As expected, there was plenty of action in this event as the field was cut from 589 down to 138. Tomorrow's Day 2 will see the money bubble burst en route to setting the final table.

Leading the way after Day 1 was Joseph Ressler with 122,100 in chips. Other notable names bagging up heaps include Galen Kester (111,000), Matt Perrins (85,600) and Thomas Chambers (80,100). They'll all be bunched at the top of the counts, but we can't forget about many of the players below them on the leaderboard. Also returning for Wednesday's Day 2 will be Scott Clements, Chance Kornuth, John Racener, Tex Barch, Nacho Barbero and Robert Williamson III.

Defending champion Sam Stein is still in contention to defend his title and successfully bagged up 48,300 in chips. Also still alive, but barely, is Phil Ivey. He didn't play a single hand in this tournament today and was blinded off all day long. His stack of 700 will return tomorrow for Day 2.

Of those to fall short of advancing were Daniel Negreanu, Lex Veldhuis, Josh Arieh, Huck Seed, David Williams, Phil Hellmuth and Jason Mercier. Mercier was eliminated by Clements after getting the money in on the {10-Spades}{9-Spades}{2-Hearts} flop with the {A-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{4-Spades}. His overpair and flush draw whiffed against the {A-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{7-Spades} for Clements after a turn {2-Diamonds} and river {10-Diamonds}.

On Wednesday, the cards will be in the air for Day 2 at 2:00 PM. PokerNews will be back in action for all of the coverage, so be sure to join us then. You can also find plenty of more coverage from the 2012 World Series of Poker on our Live Reporting Pages. Until then, thanks for following along and goodnight from Las Vegas!
