Chiu Goes From Basement to Penthouse

David Chiu
David Chiu

Don't look now, but David Chiu has just gone from 2 big bets to chip leader in the span of three hands, including that last double up.

The next hand was three ways in a Stud Hi/Lo, though the pot stayed pretty small. Chiu did get a raise in on sixth showing {10-Clubs} {8-Diamonds} {4-Clubs} {5-Diamonds}, but the river went check-check between he and Stephen Chidwick. Chiu turned up {J-Hearts} {10-Hearts} {5-Spades} for two pair, and that gave him the pot.

One hand later, Chidwick completed with the {J-Diamonds}, and Chiu defended his bring-in with the {2-Clubs}. Chidwick's pulled the {9-Hearts} and bet fourth street, and Chiu's {K-Spades} was good enough for call. On fifth, Chiu pulled the {K-Clubs} to make an open pair, and his bet quickly chased Chidwick out.

Chiu is in charge, but this match is being played at a high level with short stacks.

Monster Wheel for Chidwick

Razz:

Ylon Schwartz completed with a {6-} and then called a raise from Stephen Chidwick, who was showing {2-}. The latter took the lead on the turn and fired out a bet, which Schwartz called.

The lead went back to the 2008 November Niner on fifth street and he opted to bet, which Chidwick called. From there, Schwartz check-called bets on sixth and seventh, but mucked when Chidwick showed the nuts.

Chidwick: {4-}{5-}{9-} / {2-}{A-}{A-}{3-}
Schwartz: (x-x) / {6-}{3-}{9-}{7-} / (x)

Robby Rasmussen Eliminated in 4th Place ($78,021)

Robby Rasmussen - 4th place
Robby Rasmussen - 4th place

Razz:

In the first hand of Razz, Robby Rasmussen completed and was called by David Chiu. Both players had the same hand on the turn, but that didn't stop Rasmussen from betting and Chiu from calling. The same action occurred on fifth street, and then Chiu bet his last 105,000 when he took the lead on sixth. Coincidentally, Rasmussen had the exact same amount and committed it to the pot.

Chiu: {7-}{4-} / {10-}{3-}{6-}{8-} / (x)
Rasmussen: {A-}{3-} / {10-}{3-}{5-}{9-} / (x)

"You probably have me," Rasmussen admitted before the cards were turned up. Sure enough, Chiu had a made eight-low and had his opponent drawing dead. Rasmussen, who began the final table as chip leader, finished in fourth place and leaves with a $78,021 consolation prize.

Elior Sion Eliminated in 5th Place ($55,422)

Elior Sion
Elior Sion

Stud:

Elior Sion completed with the {A-Spades} only to have Robby Rasmussen raise with the {Q-Hearts}. Sion made the call and then led out on the turn. Rasmussen made the call and then raised Scion's bet on fifth street. Sion then three-bet his last 90,000 and Rasmussen made the call.

Sion: {K-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} / {A-Spades}{K-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} / {3-Clubs}
Rasmussen: {Q-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} / {Q-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{4-Hearts} / {K-Hearts}

Rasmussen turned two pair and was in the lead, but Sion held kings and had plenty of outs. Unfortunately for him, none would be delivered and he was felled in fifth place for $55,422.

David Rogers Eliminated in 6th Place ($40,169)

Dave Rogers
Dave Rogers

Stud:

Ylon Schwartz completed with the {7-Clubs} and was raised by David Rogers, who was showing the {K-Hearts}. The two raised back and forth until Rogers was all in for 146,000 total, and he was in bad shape.

Rogers: {J-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} / {K-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{3-Spades}{7-Hearts} / {6-Clubs}
Schwartz: {K-Spades}{K-Clubs} / {7-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{6-Hearts} / {A-Hearts}

While Rogers caught a little help on the turn, he would receive no more as the board ran out dry. Schwartz's kings held up to take down the pot, dispatching Rogers in sixth place for $40,169.

Jason Brown Eliminated in 7th Place ($29,679)

Jason Brown
Jason Brown

Omaha Hi/Lo:

Action folded around to Elior Sion in the cutoff and he put in a raise. Jason Brown then moved all in from the small blind for 60,000 total, and Chidwick three-bet from the big blind. Sion not only called the raise, but proceeded to call bets on the {10-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{J-Hearts} flop and {8-Hearts} turn before folding the {J-Diamonds} river.

Chidwick revealed {A-Spades}{A-Hearts}{K-Spades}{3-Clubs} for aces and jacks, which bested his opponent's {Q-Hearts}{Q-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}. Brown shook hands with the remaining players before taking his leave in seventh place.

Marlon Milne Eliminated in 8th Place ($22,358)

Marlon Milne - 8th place
Marlon Milne - 8th place

Stud Hi/Lo:

One hand after their last encounter, Marlon Milne and Ylon Schwartz got it all in again.

Milne: ({8-Clubs} {8-Spades}) / {6-Clubs} {6-Diamonds} {A-Clubs} {3-Clubs} / (x)
Schwartz: ({J-Clubs} {2-Clubs}) / {9-Clubs} {5-Clubs} {10-Diamonds} {3-Diamonds} / (x)

The chips got in on fourth street in heaving raising action, and Milne's two pair had to fade Schwartz's flush draw. It was Milne who drew the clubs on fifth and sixth, and he had the only low draw with one to come.

Schwartz rolled his river over first, though, and the {K-Clubs} was a disaster for Milne. His two pair were suddenly in a big hole, and a blank river would mean his elimination. The {Q-Hearts} was one of those blanks, and that's the one Milne received on seventh, much to his chagrin.

After a fine run this week, Marlon Milne is headed for the rail. On his way out the door, he'll pick up more than $22,000.

Sanjay Pandya Eliminated in 9th Place ($17,150)

Sanjay Pandya - 9th place
Sanjay Pandya - 9th place

Stud Hi/Lo:

Sanjay Pandya completed with the {Q-Hearts}, and Ylon Schwartz thought for a long while before raising with the {K-Spades}. Pandya called all in, and the cards were rolled over and the boards run out.

Pandya: ({A-Spades} {8-Hearts}) / {Q-Hearts} {2-Spades} {8-Spades} {4-Hearts} / (x)
Schwartz: ({9-Spades} {9-Diamonds}) / {K-Spades} {3-Diamonds} {2-Hearts} {K-Diamonds} / (x)

Schwartz made two pair on sixth, and Pandya needed to catch a card to stay alive. He needed an ace, eight, or low card to even have a shot. When he squeezed his last card, though, he frowned a shook his head. It was the {10-Diamonds}, and it was no use.

Pandya finished 11th in a Stud Hi/Lo event earlier this summer, and he's added a ninth-place run here in this H.O.R.S.E. event. He'll take more than $17,000 home this time.

Allen Cunningham Eliminated in 10th Place ($17,150)

Allen Cunningham - 10th place
Allen Cunningham - 10th place

Allen Cunningham's sixth gold bracelet will have to wait for now. It was the Razz orbit that did Cunningham in. We watched him drop a big pot to Elior Sion to reduce him to just a stub of a stack, and the rest of it got in a short while later. It was Marlon Milne who did the knocking out, and Cunningham gets a pay bump up to $17,150 for his efforts here this week.

Zimnan Ziyard Eliminated in 12th Place ($13,405)

Zimnan Ziyard - 12th place
Zimnan Ziyard - 12th place

It's the end of a long and perilous road for Zimnan Ziyard. He's just been eliminated in 12th place after three days of roller-coaster poker in which he was down under 1 big bet or less several times.

Hold'em:

His final hand began with him open-raising his last 31,000 into the middle under the gun. David Rogers and Ylon Schwartz (big blind) came along with him, and they checked to the river on the {4-Clubs} {Q-Hearts} {3-Clubs} {K-Clubs} {10-Hearts} board as Ziyard stood up in between them sweating his fate. On the river, Rogers made a bet, and Ziyard figured that might not be good news. When Schwartz folded, Rogers tabled {K-Hearts} {10-Diamonds} for two pair.

Ziyard rolled over his {A-Spades} {A-Diamonds} — good, but second best by the river. He has been eliminated in 12th place, but he received a nice parting compliment from Ylon Schwartz.

"Great player," Schwartz acknowledged. "You'll make a lot of money."

This one's not really "a lot of money" for Ziyard, but the $13,000+ he'll pocket is a respectable consolation prize for his run.
