Event 40: $2,500 Limit Hold'em - Six-Handed

Six-Handed Limit Hold'em Awaits

Welcome to our ongoing coverage of the 2012 World Series of Poker. Today begins Event 40: $2,500 Limit Hold'em - Six-Handed.

Poker Hall of Famer Crandall Addington long ago referred to limit hold'em as "a science." But the fact is, many of today's top players approach the game — especially in its short-handed form — with the creativity of artists.

Last year Darren Woods topped a tough field of 354 to take the bracelet and $213,431 first prize. To win Woods had to outlast Kim Nguyen heads-up and third-place finisher Samuel Golbluff, the latter fresh off a sixth-place finish in Event 35: $2,500 Mixed Hold'em that concluded yesterday.

Three years ago Brock Parker won his first WSOP bracelet in this event, defeating Daniel Negreanu heads-up to win, then turned around to win his second just a few days later in the short-handed no-limit hold'em version. And in 2010, it was Dutch Boyd outlasting Brian Meinders to grab his second career WSOP bracelet. Meinders has demonstrated his limit hold'em prowess already again this summer with a win in Event 25: $1,500 Limit Hold'em Shootout.

Play begins a couple of hours from now at 5 PM. Come back then as we begin to track who will be the one to claim this summer's next gold bracelet, one bet at a time.

Players are starting with 7,500 chips. We're seeing a number of familiar faces already. Back in just a few to tell you who they are.

Greetings and Salutations

Not So Happy Start for Shulman

Jeff Shulman is here, as is his dad, Barry. Jeff is fresh off a third-place showing in Event 20: $5,000 Limit Hold'em. He's been active early on, although it hasn't been working out too well thus far.

Just now Jeff defended his big blind versus a button raise, then check-raised the {K-Spades}{4-Spades}{A-Hearts} flop and his opponent called. Shulman bet both the {9-Spades} turn and {5-Hearts} river, and his opponent called the first time quickly, then after some thought called the river, too.

Shulman tabled {Q-Clubs}{J-Spades}, but his opponent had him beat with {K-Hearts}{J-Clubs}.

Seiver Takes A Pot, But Still Down

Jeff Shulman put in a raise from under the gun and and the player in the small blind called. Scott Seiver called from the big blind and the flop fell {Q-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}.

It checked around to Shulman who bet, but the small blind put in a raise. Seiver re-raised, quickly chasing out Shulman. The player in the small blind folded as well, giving the pot to Seiver.

This is Seiver's second event today, as he finished in 15th-place in Event 37 about an hour ago.
