Day 2 Concludes; Gironda Leads Tough Final 10

Level 18 : 5,000/10,000, 0 ante
Vincent Gironda
Vincent Gironda

An exciting second day of play has concluded in Event 40: $2,500 Limit Hold'em - Six Handed, with just 10 players out of the 101 who began play today surviving to Saturday's final day. Vincent Gironda is bagging the most chips to end the night, with Terrence Chan his closest competitor.

Gironda started Day 2 at the top of the counts as well, with Michael Reed, Andre Akkari, and Chan all not far off the lead. Meanwhile many of the shorter stacks hit the rail during the afternoon and early evening, including Daniel Idema, John Monnette, Bill Chen, Eugene Katchalov, Humberto Brenes, Dan Kelly, Joe Cassidy, and, eventually, Akkari.

It was during Level 14, the last before the dinner break, that the cash bubble burst and the final 36 had been set. By then Chan, Joep van den Bijgaart, and Sorel Mizzi had surged up over the 100,000-chip mark to the top of the counts. They'd maintain their stacks while the field continued to shrink, with Scott Seiver (35th), John Hennigan (31st), Jeff Lisandro (30th), Michael Reed (26th), Jon Turner (23rd), and Dan Shak (21st) among those failing to survive to the end of the night.

By the time they reached the final Level 18, Gironda had reclaimed the chip lead as the first player to a half million chips, with Chan, Mizzi, and van den Bijgaart all building formidable stacks as well. Maria Ho was in the mix, too, battling with a short stack until the field dwindled to the final tables, then finally falling in 11th in a hand versus Chan.

There a lot of familiar names among the 10 who'll be returning. Here they are, as well as the stacks to which they'll be returning:

Maria Ho Eliminated in 11th Place ($9,362)

Maria Ho - 11th Place
Maria Ho - 11th Place

Just moments after making a tough river call to double through Terrence Chan, Maria Ho went to battle with Chan again. This time, she was taken down by the Limit Hold'em master.

We missed the action, but Ho's {K-Spades}{Q-Hearts} was run down by Chan's {5-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}. She'll collect $9,362 for her two days of work.

Jacob Petersen has fallen in 12th after hanging on for the first 20 minutes of Level 18 with a short stack. Down to just a few big bets, Petersen failed to survive a skirmish with Maria Ho, and is on his way to cash his 12th-place ticket worth $9,362.

Yosuke Sekiya Eliminated in 13th Place ($7,495)

Level 18 : 5,000/10,000, 0 ante
Yosuke Sekiya - 13th place
Yosuke Sekiya - 13th place

On the first hand of Level 18, Chad Brown opened with a raise from the button (now to 10,000), and Yosuke Sekiya reraised from the small blind with the 14,000 he had left. Ronnie Bardah called the reraise, as did Brown, and the trio watched the flop come {9-Hearts}{K-Spades}{5-Diamonds}. Bardah fired into the side pot, and Brown let his hand go.

Bardah tabled {K-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} for kings while Sekiya needed help with his {A-Hearts}{2-Clubs}. The turn as the {3-Spades} and river the {Q-Clubs}, and Sekiya is out in 13th.

There will be a brief pause as the remaining dozen players redraw for seats around the final two tables.

After surviving with the short stack in that earlier hand versus Jacob Petersen, Harrison Wilder wasn't so fortunate after finding himself all in once more versus Hans Minocha and has hit the rail in 14th place, earning $7,495 for his efforts.

Michael Senter Eliminated in 15th Place ($7,495)

Michael Senter raised from the cutoff, Jacob Petersen three-bet from the button, and Hans Minocha cold called from the small blind. Senter then four-bet, and Petersen five-bet. Minocha and Senter followed (with 2K behind).

Flop: {5-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{2-Clubs}

After Minocha checked, Senter bet all-in, and Petersen raised. Minocha then re-raised, and Petersen called to see the {5-Hearts} hit the turn. Michocha took the lead this time and Petersen called. The river brought the {2-Diamonds} and Petersen called another bet from Minocha.

Minocha showed {7-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} for two pair, which had Senter's {A-Spades}{7-Clubs} beat. Petersen mucked, and Minocha scooped a huge pot.

Seiver Slips, Slides Out in 35th

Scott Seiver
Scott Seiver

A short-stacked Scott Seiver found himself nearly all in before the flop in a hand versus Richard Alsup, then contributed the rest of his stack following a {10-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{4-Clubs} flop.

Alsup turned over {A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts} and Seiver {A-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}. "All right!" said Seiver, sounding equally sincere and sarcastic. Actually he might have been more than half-sincere, as he observed to his neighbor Dan Shak he was "like 80% to chop."

"Just watch," he added hopefully.

The turn brought the {2-Clubs} and the river the {K-Diamonds}. "See? It's a chop," Seiver grinned. Alas, his creative interpretation of the board didn't sway the dealer, and the last of his chips went Alsup's way.

Joe Cassidy Has Been Eliminated by Ronnie Bardah

Joe Cassidy is a goner.
Joe Cassidy is a goner.

One of our most recent World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winners, Joe Cassidy, has just exited stage left. The man who now has his chips is Ronnie "The Bard" Bardah.

We didn't see the action, but Bardah was kind enough to tell us that a very short Cassidy raised in first position holding {Q-Spades} {7-Spades} and Bardah put him all-in holding {Q-} {8-}. The flop of {A-} {7-} {4-} reversing the way things should have been, and after bricking both the turn and river, Cassidy was out.

Scott Seiver Eliminates Ray Sumon

Scott Seiver takes out Sumon
Scott Seiver takes out Sumon

Scott Seiver is recognised amongst his peers as one of the most talented poker players in today's game. The World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner has Dan Shak seated to his immediate left and fresh air seated to his immediate right. The fresh air is residing in a space once occupied by Ray Sumon, but Seiver decided he needed a little more elbow room.

Sumon was extremely short when he put his life savings into the middle from the small blind and Seiver duly called in the big. Seiver tabled {Q-Spades} {3-Spades} and Sumon was ahead, holding {K-Clubs} {4-Diamonds}. Two pair on a flop of {Q-Diamonds} {J-Spades} {3-Clubs} put Seiver ahead, and his victory was confirmed on the turn when the {3-Diamonds} filled him up. The lacklustre looking {2-Spades} finished off the board and Sumon took his absence of leave.

Mark Radoja Flares

Mark Radoja is on fire (literally)
Mark Radoja is on fire (literally)

Who said Limit Hold'em is boring? There is more action on Table #428 than a fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao!

We joined the action on a flop of {8-Clubs} {7-Spades} {3-Clubs} and three players in the pot. We had World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet holder and former WSOP Player of the Year Jeff Lisandro seated in the small blind, Ruslan Dykshteyn seated in the big blind and WSOP bracelet holder Mark Radoja raining down bombs from the button.

Both Lisandro and Dykshteyn checked, Mark Radoja bet, Lisandro raised, Dykshteyn three-bet, Radoja four-bet, Lisandro folded and Dykshteyn called.

Turn: {7-Diamonds}

Dykshteyn checked, Radoja bet, Dykshteyn check-raised and Radoja called.

River: {5-Clubs}

Dykshteyn bet and Radoja called.

Dykshteyn turned over {9-Spades} {7-Clubs} for trips and Radoja shook his head. Meanwhile both Lisandro and Dykshteyn asked to see Radoja's hand and it resulted in a fiery response from Radoja.

"It's unethical," was one of the only reportable things we could mention that flew out of the mouth of Radoja.

Radoja continued to berate, Dykshteyn in particular, for wanting to see his hand. At one point even shouting at Dykshteyn to look at him when he was talking.

"You bink a fXXing seven on me and you want to see my hand?" Said Radoja with an ever increasing level of noise.

"Calm down," said Lisandro.

"It's unethical," repeated Radoja.

"It's no big deal. It happens to me all of the time," said Lisandro.

"Not from professionals…I would never do that…you should know better Jeffrey," said Radoja.

"Just don't blow off your chips now," said Lisandro.

"I won't be blowing off my chips," said Radoja.

"What did he have?" rained the shouts from the other tables.

He had {A-Spades} {8-Diamonds}, 11,700 chips and a bad mood to boot.
