Day 3 Started

Chaplin Leads Going into Day 3; Many Notables Still in the Hunt

Jackie Glazier - looking to be the first woman to win an open event this year.

Welcome back to the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino for Day 3 of Event 41: $3,000 No-Limit Hold'em! Today is to be the day where we play down to an eventual winner, though, with 30 players still in the hunt - there is still a long ways to go!

Best positioned to bring home the gold bracelet is our Day 2 chipleader Joseph Chaplin - who managed to break the million chip mark and bag up 1,085,000. Right behind Chaplin is the only other player who broke 1 million during Day 2 - Jackie Glazier (1,077,000), who is also our last woman standing in the event.

That being said, there is still plenty of well-known poker talent left in the field who will by trying their best to rise to the top. Also looking to take down the bracelet, and the $742,072 prize that goes with it, are poker pros Scott Montgomery, Jason Koon, Dan Shak, JP Kelly, Shannon Shorr and Fabrice Soulier, who just last year took down the $10,000 H.O.R.S.E. event for a cool $609,130 and his first-ever gold bracelet.

Here are the seating assignments and chips going into Day 3:

So there you have it - will Chaplin ride his chip lead into a win? Will Jackie Glazier become the first woman to win an open World Series of Poker Event this year? (The last woman to accomplish this was Vanessa Selbst - when she took down a Pot-Limit Omaha event in 2008.) Or will victory fall the way of one of the many remaining pros?

Play is set to begin at 1:00 PM PST so please stay tuned right here with us at PokerNews as the action unfolds and we race our way to finding another WSOP champion!

Shannon Shorr Eliminated in 30th Place

Action folded over to Shannon Shorr on the button, who moved all in for his last 153,000. Peter Nguyen went all in directly behind him to put Shorr at risk.

Shorr: {A-Clubs}{J-Hearts}
Nguyen: {A-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}

Shorr was in terrible shape going to flop and would need a miracle to survive.

The {Q-Spades}{J-Spades}{9-Hearts}{A-Spades}{3-Spades} board wasn't enough and Shorr's two-pair was trumped by Nguyen's set of aces.

Shorr will receive $18,609 for his efforts, while Nguyen has chipped up to 675,000.

Niall Farrell Eliminated in 29th Place

Hiren Patel opened to 25,000 from the small blind and was three-bet to 66,000 by Niall Farrell in the big. Patel thought it over and opted to four-bet to 114,000 total. Farrell quickly pushed all in for his last 200,000 and Patel made the call to put Farrell at risk.

Farrell: {A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}
Patel: {Q-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}

Patel had a slight advantage going to the flop, but the {Q-Clubs}{K-Spades}{3-Clubs} flop put Patel in dominating shape. The {7-Hearts} turn left Farrell drawing dead and a meaningless {6-Hearts} completed the board to send Farrell to the rail.

Patel is up to 780,000 following the hand.

Shak Eliminated in 28th Place

Dan Shak opened to 25,000 from middle position and he found one caller in Darryl Ronconi on the button.

Both players checked the {K-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} flop. Shak checked once more on the {9-Spades} turn, however, Ronconi would check no more - instead opting to bed 70,000. Shak made the call.

The river fell a {2-Hearts} and Shak went all in for his last 108,000 and Ronconi called.

Shak flipped over {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}, but Ronconi tabled a superior {A-Spades}{K-Clubs} for a pair of kings and Shak was eliminated.

McNeil: {A-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}
Fox: {7-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}

The board ran out {2-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{Q-Spades}{K-Diamonds}, which left Fox best with his pair of sevens and McNeil was eliminated.
