Gregorich Scoops

Stud-8

We reached Table 449 on sixth street, where Clayton Newman was calling a bet, and three players were headed to seventh.

Clayton Newman{x-}{x-} / {8-Spades}{4-Spades}{2-Spades}{k-Spades} / {x-}
Matt Lefkowitz{x-}{x-} / {7-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds} / {x-}
Mark Gregorich{x-}{x-} / {5-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{4-Spades} / {x-}

On seventh street, the action checked to Gregorich, who bet. Newman unhappily folded, and Lefkowitz called.

"Am I getting scooped?" Lefkowitz asked.

Gregorich nodded, tabling {6-Spades}{4-Clubs}{2-}.

"Aces-up and a seventy-six," Lefkowitz announced, mucking his hand.

Benson Battling

Stud-8

Back in 1996, Gary Benson won his first and only World Series of Poker gold bracelet in a Stud event. Since then he has amassed close to $1 million in tournament winnings around the world. He returned to the felt today, but hasn't had a great start, with his stack almost halved in the last hour.

We recently watched Benson battle it out with Hooman Nikzad in a hand of Stud 8. Here is how the cards looked.

Benson: {x-}{x-} / {8-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{5-Hearts} / {x-}
Nikzad: {x-}{x-} / {9-Clubs}{a-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{k-Clubs} / {x-}
Other opponent: {x-}{x-} / {a-Diamonds}{q-Spades}{10-Hearts} (FOLDED)

We came to the action on fourth street, with one player checking and Nikzad leading out. Gary Benson called, so too did the other player and we took to fifth street. This time the first player would check-fold to another bet from Nikzad and Benson would again call. on sixth street, Nikzad opted to check call a bet from Benson and the final card was dealt. This time both players checked and Benson turned over {4-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}, enough for the low, while Nikzad held a fifth club to make a flush for the high. The two players split a small profit. Every chip counts for Benson right now.

Barbero Battles Bloch

Omaha-8

Much has been documented about Andy Bloch finally winning his first bracelet this summer and we are sure he will be looking to win his second very soon. He's still in contention today, but recently lost a small pot to Nacho Barbero.

The hand in question began when Barbero opened up the pot with a raise from under the gun. The player in the small blind made the call, along with Bloch in the big blind.

The {8-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{10-Hearts} flop would see the small blind check, Bloch bet and then Barbero raise. The small blind got out of the way and Bloch called. When the {4-Hearts} was dealt on the turn, Bloch checked and Barbero bet. It took Bloch quite some time to make his decision, but he eventually opted to fold, sending the pot to Barbero.

While this was only a small pot, Barbero has managed to see his chip stack sit quite healthy during these early stages of the day.

Barbero Loses a Bunch

Stud-8

Barbero: {x-}{x-} / {5-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{j-Hearts}{10-Clubs} / {x-}
Opponent: {x-}{x-} / {a-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{5-Spades} / {x-}

We arrived at Table 458 with Nacho Barbero and one opponent already on fifth street. Barbero's opponent led here and on sixth and Barbero called both times. On seventh, Barbero's opponent again bet and Barbero just shook his head and leaned back in his chair. It took a long time for Barbero to decide what to do, but eventually opted to call.

When Barbero's opponent turned over {4-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{j-Spades}, the small pair and the low hand were enough to send Barbero's cards flying into the muck.

An Iconic Double

Omaha-8

Bryan "The Icon" Micon raised in late position, Ryan Miller made it three bets on his direct left, and a player in the blinds cold-called. Micon called as well, and the flop came {k-Clubs}{3-Spades}{9-Hearts}. The action checked to Miller who bet, and only Micon called.

The turn was the {5-Hearts}, and Micon checked again. Miller bet, and Micon check-raised, leaving only a few T100 chips behind. Miller thought for a bit before re-raising enough to put Micon all in, and Micon called.

Micon{a-Clubs}{9-Spades}{5-Hearts}{3-Spades}
Miller{a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{3-Hearts}

Miller was ahead, but the {5-Spades} spiked on the river, giving Micon a full house, and the entire pot.
