Selbst Looking for Second Career Bracelet

Level 18
Can Vanessa Selbst win her second career bracelet?
Can Vanessa Selbst win her second career bracelet?

Day 2 of Event 52: $2,500 10-Game Mix Six-Handed began with 167 of the original 421 entrants, and after ten hours of play, 19 remain. Our chip leader, Vanessa Selbst, rocketed to the top of the charts after dinner break, and is our end-of-day chip leader with 346,900 chips. Joining her at the top of the counts are Michael Saltzburg (286,700), Matthew Ashton (285,600), and Julien Renard (283,000).

Selbst will be looking to capture her second career WSOP bracelet tomorrow – her first came in a $1,500 PLO event in 2008 – and Vincent van der Fluit is looking to take down his second WSOP event this year – he won Event 11: $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha. Chris Bjorin, Bryn Kenney, Lee Goldman, Can Kim Hua, James Mackey, and Thomas Chambers have all made final tables here at the 2012 WSOP, with Bjorin finishing runner-up in Event 4: $1,500 Seven Card Stud Hi-Low 8-or-Better.

Plenty of notables bowed out before the money bubble burst, including Eli Elezra, Daniel Idema, Hasan Habib, Jason Potter, Joe Tehan, Joe Kuether, Greg Mueller, Paul Volpe, George Danzer, Yuval Bronshtein, Alex Dovzhenko, Michael Binger, Owais Ahmed, and our bubble boy; John D’Agostino. D’Agostino was eliminated in a hand of No-Limit 2-7 Single Draw, where he and Mike Gorodinksy both drew one card. Gorodinsky’s {j-}{7-}{5-}{4-}{2-} bested D’Agostino’s {j-}{10-}{6-}{5-}{2-}, eliminating him one spot shy of the money.

Among the 29 players who cashed but didn’t make it to Day 3 are Mike Matusow, Marco Traniello, Richard Ashby, Chris Wallace, Jeff Madsen, Dan O’Brien, Peter Ippolito, and Eric Wasserson.

Play will resume at 3 p.m. tomorrow, where the plan is to play until there’s a winner. We look forward to seeing you then, but for now, good night from Las Vegas!

Pot-Limit Omaha

Noah Boeken just got his last chips into the pot against fellow countrymen Vincent van der Fluit. Boeken got all in pre flop for his final 25,000 chip and this was the following showdown.

Noah Boeken{J-Spades}{J-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}{7-Diamonds}
Vincent van der Fluit{A-Spades}{K-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}

The board ran out {A-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{6-Hearts}{8-Spades} giving Van der Fluit the winning hand, and that puts him up on top again.

John D'Agostino Bubbles Event 52: $2,500 10-Game Mix - Six-Handed

NL 2-7 Single Draw

John D'Agostino moved all in for his last 7,000 chips or so on the button. Mike Gorodinsky called out of the small blind, and the big blind released. The action was then held to allow the other tables to complete their hands.

"Are you drawing?" D'Agostino asked Gorodinsky.

"One," Gorodinsky answered. "You?"

"I can't tell you that yet," D'Agostino responded, grinning.

D'Agostino then admitted he was drawing one as well, and asked Gorodinksy what he had.

"Seven-five-four-two," Gorodinksy admitted.

"F***," D'Agostino blurted. "Give him a seven, dealer."

"Give me three sides!" Gorodinsky pleaded.

Finally, the players were allowed to deal, and both players received jacks. Gorodinksy's {j-}{7-}{5-}{4-}{2-} was better than D'Agostino's {j-}{10-}{6-}{5-}{2-} however, and he was eliminated.

Rikard Aberg Makes His Presence Known

Rikard Aberg
Rikard Aberg

Rikard Aberg has been in poker media for a very long time, and this event is his chance at world-wide poker glory. Aberg managed to survive Day 1 with 16,800 chips, and after a few orbits he managed to chip up just a little. We caught two hands he was involved in during Omaha-8.

Joe Keuther raised it up, Aberg called from the small blind and Raymond Davis three-bet from the big blind. Both Keuther and Aberg called giving of three-way action on the flop.

The flop came down {2-Hearts}{4-Spades}{6-Clubs}, Aberg checked, Davis bet and both his opponents called. On the turn the {10-Clubs} hit and again Davis was the one betting, Keuther and Aberg called. The river was the {2-Diamonds} and the same process was repeated once more.

Keuther turned over {A-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{J-Hearts}{7-Hearts} for the nut low, Aberg showed {Q-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{2-Clubs} for a full house and Davis tabled his {A-}{4-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{K-Spades}. We missed the suit of Davis' ace, but his hand was no good. The pot was split between Aberg and Keuther, and Davis was left very unhappy.

"Make sure you write that down correctly, he just called three-bets pre flop with queen-queen-six-deuce," Davis said.

"I don't know what I'm doing," Aberg said smiling sarcastically.

"I figured that's how you got your chips," Davis added, who wasn't happy with the way this hand played out.

On the very next hand Rep Porter raised, Aberg called on the button and Hasan Habib moved all in from the big blind. Porter and Aberg both called.

The flop came down {Q-Hearts}{2-Spades}{8-Diamonds}, Porter bet and Aberg called. The turn was the {J-Hearts} and Porter bet, Aberg called. On the river the {Q-Diamonds} hit and Porter bet again. Aberg didn't seem too happy but called. Porter showed {Q-Spades}{J-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{9-Clubs} and took down the whole pot, Habib mucked and went straight to the $25,000 One Drop satellite.
