Cherishing The Jack

We just saw Cherish Andrews scoop a monster pot and here's how it went down. A player in early position raised to 1,250. Action folded to the button who made it 2,800. Then, Andrews in the small blind made it 7,300 to go.

Action folded back to the original raiser who tanked for at least 30 seconds before moving all in for over 50,000 chips. The player on the button snap folded his cards and the action was on to Andrews.

Andrews sat and thought intently about her decision. "Are you trying to bluff me? or not?" she muttered outloud.

After nearly 2 minutes in the tank, Andrews put in the call for her whole stack of nearly 26,000 chips. Her opponent turned up {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}, and dejectedly Andrews turned up an inferior {j-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}.

"At least she was tanking with a legitimate hand," someone at the table said. "What did you have?" he asked the player on the button.

"{A-}{Q-}," the button said.

The flop was safe for the first player, as it fell {8-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{10-Spades}.

The turn was safe as well when it fell {2-Spades}.

But, the river was not so safe when it fell the {j-Spades}.

The player shot daggers at Andrews as he grumpily stacked his chips and shipped over half of them over to Andrews.

Sinking Like Quicksand

We just saw David 'Doc Sands lose a substantial pot at his table. Before the hand, Sands was sitting on about 34,000 chips.

We know that preflop, an under the gun player put in a fourth bet for 8800, and Sands was left with a decision to call for 5150 more. Eventually, Sands put in the chips and the two players were off to the flop.

The dealer rolled out {10-Spades}{4-Spades}{6-Clubs} on the flop, and the under the gun player bet out 8,400. Sands tanked for a little while before folding, and dropping down to 26,000 in chips.

Going Dutch

Dutch Boyd told us that he had 8,600 chips when we came to his table, but when we left, he had a slightly smaller stack.

Action folded to Boyd in the hijack who raised to 1,500. Then, the player in the cutoff moved all-in with a covering stack.

After a short time in the tank, Boyd showed his opponent the {A-Spades} and folded.

His opponent also showed Boyd a card, which we couldn't see, but he made a disgusted face, so it must not have been good.

Last Year's Champion Still Alive

Athanasios Polychronopoulos won this very event last year and has managed to outlast about 2,500 competitors again this year.

We caught up with Polychronopoulous looking down at a board of {2-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{10-Spades}. His opponent checked and Polychronopoulous moved 3,375 into the middle. What he was not expecting was that his opponent would check-raise and it suddenly was 6,900 back to him. Polychronopoulous mucked his hand and the pot was awarded to his opponent.

Polychronopoulous is still healthy, however, sitting on a stack of 46,000.

Breaking Red

Level 9 : 300/600, 75 ante

The red section of the Brasilia room has been completely broken and the remaining players have now been condensed to the gold, silver, or bronze sections of the room. This means we are down to the final 64 tables.

Boyd Bounced

We don't know all the action, but when we came to the table we saw Dutch Boyd all in holding {A-}{4-} against his opponents {k-Hearts}{7-Hearts}.

The board was safe for Boyd to double up until the river came the {7-Clubs} to give his opponent the winning hand.
