Event 56: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em
Day 2 Started
Yesterday marked the beginning of Event #56: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em. As expected, the event drew another massive field as has been the pattern in the lower buy-in No-Limit Hold'em tournaments. By the end of the fourth level, 2,798 hopefuls had registered for a shot at a gold bracelet. However, when all was said and done - only 305 would remain with Donald Vogel standing tall as our Day 1 chip leader (145,200).
Some notables who took a shot, but eventually fell short and busted during Day 1 include Matt Affleck, Freddy Deeb, Vanessa Rousso, Joe Cada, Liv Boeree, Terrence Chan, Andrew Lichtenberger and recent two-time bracelet winner Vanessa Selbst, who met her end after being crippled by an opponent's pocket tens.
Those fortunate enough to survive (and thrive) during Day 1 include Will Failla (78,300), Matt Brady (65,300), Cherish Andrews (56,900), Kennii Nguyen (47,000), Jennifer Leigh (33,400), Peter Eastgate (24,200), Jeff Madsen (23,400) and Daniel Negreanu (57,200), who hopped into the event shortly after busting from the One Drop Event.
Play is scheduled to resume at 1:00 PM PST. With just eight more eliminations until the money bubble bursts - you can be sure the action will be tense as we kick things off during this Day 2! Be sure to stick with us here at PokerNews as we bring you all the action from the floor!
Level: 12
Blinds: 600/1,200
Ante: 200
The players are in their seats, and the cards are in the air! The money bubble should be busting fairly shortly.
We caught up with the action on a flop, where Gavin Smith pushed all in for his last 9,000 from the small blind. His lone opponent in middle position called and hands were revealed.
Smith:
Opponent:
Smith was in bad shape and would need to catch one of the two remaining sevens in the deck, however, the turn and river bricked out for Smith and he was sent to the rail.

Now that we are just a few more eliminations from the money, hand-for-hand play has begun until the money bubble has burst. Stay tuned!
Mere seconds after hand-for-hand play was announced, we lost a player. The unfortunate soul is Michael Quick. We didn't catch the action, but we saw that the board read . His opponent, Allan Le, had in front of him for trip aces. With his elimination, we are on the exact money bubble.

Anatoly Filatov and Scott Cochran have both claimed the unfortunate title of 'bubble boy' at the same time and as a result, will split up the prize money for 297th place.
We caught up with the action in Filatov's hand a bit after the preflop action had already begun. Filatov had a 9,000 bet in front of him on the button and his opponent in the big blind appeared to have raised enough to put Filatov all in. After some deliberation, Filatov announced, "Let's gamble," and called off his remaining stack.
Filatov:
Opponent:
Filatov was ahead, however, the board left his opponent with trip nines and Filatov was sent to the rail.
In what would be Cochran's last hand - Cochran moved all in on a flop for his last 7,000 and was called by his lone opponent.
Cochran: for top pair.
Opponent: for an overpair.
Cochran would need help to survive, however, the turn and river bricked out for him and he was eliminated.
Congratulations to all of our remaining players - who will each be guaranteed a minimum $2,757 payday for their efforts.
Action started with a player in middle position, and he raised it up to 2,500. The button made the call, and Tony Cousineau was next to act in the small blind. He move his short stack of 11,000 into the middle, and it got back to the original raiser. He folded, but the button tossed in the chips for the call. When the cards were tabled, Cousineau saw that he was in front.
Cousineau:
Opponent:
"You're in great shape" his opponent said when he saw Cousineau's hand. Cousineau replied with a simple "I've heard that before" as if to say he felt a suckout coming. Well he faded the fop of , but the on the river wasn't very kind to him. The river brought the , and Cousineau headed to the payout desk.

Will "The Thrill" Failla opened to 2,500 from under the gun and action folded around to his opponent on the button, who min-raised to 5,000 with just a few thousand behind. Action folded back around to Failla, who said, "You're just going to move all in on the flop," and made the call.
The flop came and Failla checked. Indeed, his opponent moved all in for his remaining stack and Failla called.
Failla:
Opponent:
"I knew you had me crushed, but I just had to go with the hand...[to] try and suck out."
The turn and river kept Failla's opponent in the lead and he doubled through.
Failla has had a rough start to the day, but still has plenty of chips to work with (55,000).
