Event 9: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em Re-Entry

Day 2 Started

Medici Leads the Way Into Day 2

Another glorious day at the Rio for the 2012 WSOP
Another glorious day at the Rio for the 2012 WSOP

Welcome back to Day 2 of Event 9: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em Re-Entry. There are 514 returning players from the two starting days and action will be underway at 1:00 PM. This event is a huge one and today should be another exciting day as the players will be breaking the bubble and finish after 10 levels are in the books.

The top 342 players are set to cash in the event. Those that do will be guaranteed $2,895, but with over $780,000 up top, they'll surely have be gawking at glory.

Leading the way is Giorgio Medici from Day 1a. He bagged up 106,500 in chips. Behind him is David Miscikowski, who finished with 105,100 and is the only other player above 100,000. Notables Tristan Clemencon, John Juanda, Bryan Piccioli and Brian Rast are all in the top 25 with very healthy stacks. PokerNews' own Kristy Arnett also made it through to Day 2. She bagged up 22,000 and will be looking to score her first World Series of Poker cash.

Play kicks off shortly and we're hoping to have you here with us all day long. Stay tuned for the coverage and be ready for another great day of poker at the 2012 WSOP.

Refund Anyone?

As was made aware yesterday, there was a bit of controversy from this event. It was let known that Will "The Thrill" Failla busted from the event on Day 1b and re-entered the same day, only to bust again. This was caused by an error in World Series of Poker registration and something that was against the rules.

It's now been made aware that a total of 81 players attempted to re-enter after they busted out on Day 1b. Three of them made it back into the field, while all others were shut out. The WSOP attempted to remove the players from the field, and were able to do so with two of them, but Failla had already busted for the second time by time they got onto the situation.

It's been made known to any player that played this event that if they can prove they were busted by any of these three players using video surveillance, they will be allowed a refund by the WSOP.

Day 2 Begins

Level 10 : 400/800, 100 ante

The players have scrambled into their seats and the call for the cards to be dealt has been made. The first level today starts at 400-800 with a 100-chip ante and will last for around 33 minutes. Normal 60-minute levels will then proceed for the rest of the evening.

Table of Toughies

Level 10 : 400/800, 100 ante

We couldn't help but stare at Table 433 as it is quite possibly the most petrifying table in the room. Here is how it stacks up:

Seat 1: Chris Bjorin
Seat 5: Brian Rast
Seat 6: Jason Mercier
Seat 9: Jonathan Duhamel

There is a hell of a lot of experience in those four players, from young to old and it will be interesting to see how it all plays out on Table 433.

David The Goliath

David Miscikowski fell just a few chips short of being the chip leader on the first Day 1 flight and now it is safe to say that he is the chip leader early on Day 2. We aren't too sure how he got hold of the chips, but he is currently sitting behind just shy of 140,000.

Rast Takes Hit

Brian Rast
Brian Rast

When we arrived at Brian Rast's table there were already three cards spread across the felt and Rast was involved in a hand against two opponents.

Flop: {2-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}

The player first to act threw out a bet of 2,200 and both players called as a handy little pot was brewing. The {9-Diamonds} hit the turn and the action was checked to Rast who bet 3,800. This time only the next player to act would call as the other play sent thier cards into the muck.

When the dealer peeled off a {7-Spades} on the river, both players decided to check. Rast's opponent turned over {k-Clubs}{q-Spades}, good enough to see Rast's cards fly into the muck.

Bjorin Busto

Just a short while ago we told readers about a scary table that featured several of the best players going around. Chris Bjorin was one of those players. Well, the table is a little less tough for the rest of the players now as Bjorin has recently been seen making his way out of the tournament area. Bjorin, who finished 2nd in the $1,500 Stud Hi/Low event early last week, will surely be seen in another event at this WSOP very soon.

New Chairs for the Amazon Room

The World Series of Poker has introduced some new furniture in the Amazon Room of the Rio today. The entire room now has a new set of chairs. The chairs look a bit more fancy and are definitely in better shape than the old ones. The chairs also aren't leather, but a fabric material and that should help them breathe a little better.

When some of the PokerNews employees took the chairs for a test run, they seem a bit stiff at first, but that's going to be so as they're brand new and will need to be broken in a little. They also feel lighter than the old chairs, which may cause a problem lighter means they are less sturdy and the legs start to give a bit. On a fair amount of the older chairs in the Rio, legs are bent due to the constant use they've received over the years.

We'll see if the players have anything to say about the chairs, especially in comparison to the old ones.
