Tryba Sinks Sands

Chris Tryba raised under the gun to 125, and David Doc Sands three-bet to 350 from the cutoff. It got back to Tryba, and he tossed in the call. They went heads up to a flop of {2-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}, and Tryba checked to Sands, who fired out 475. Tryba check raised it to 1,500. Sands called, and we were off to the turn.

That card came down the {3-Diamonds}, and Tryba didn't slow down, firing out 2,600. Sands took about 30 seconds to make the call, and the river was the {5-Diamonds}, bringing four diamonds on board. This didn't deter Tryba, as he fired out 5,750. Sands went deep into the tank on this one, thinking for about three minutes. Eventually, he kicked his cards in, giving the pot to Tryba.

Devo Grabs an Early Pot

Level 1 : 25/50, 0 ante

We caught up with this at the river between Bryan Devonshire and Jonathan Sorscher. They were at the river with a 3,000 pot and a board of {6-Hearts} {6-Diamonds} {10-Hearts} {5-Diamonds} {7-Diamonds}.

Sorscher bet 2,500 on the river and Devonshire tank-stared at Sorscher. After several long moments Devonshire tossed in a call and tabled {A-Diamonds} {K-Diamonds} for the nut flush.

Bari's Overbet Gets Paid Off

When we arrived at Allen Bari's table, we saw that he was heads up on a board that read {k-Diamonds}{q-Spades}{j-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}. There was only about 1,000 in the middle, but Bari had an overbet of 3,350 out in front of him. His opponent, Charles Croft, thought for about 20 seconds before tossing in the call. Bari showed {8-Spades}{8-Hearts} for a rivered full house, and Croft sent his cards to the muck.

Lowery Gets There Against Burt

We found Bryan Devonshire, Daniel Lowery and Tim Burt all go to a {10-Clubs} {A-Hearts} {7-Diamonds} flop. Devonshire and Lowery checked, Burt bet 500, Devonshire folded and Lowery called.

The turn came {J-Clubs} and both players checked. The river came {Q-Diamonds}, Lowery checked and Burt bet 725. Lowery called, Burt tabled {A-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds} for a flopped two pair and Lowery tabled {Q-Diamonds} {Q-Spades} for a rivered set.

Stein Starts Off Well

As we swung by Table #12, we saw a fresh face in Seat 5: 2011 bracelet winner Sam Stein. We also saw that he was hopping right into the action, as he was heads up with Drew Woodke on a flop of {8-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}. Stein fired out 400, and Woodke responded with a raise to 1,000. Stein tossed in the call, and the turn brought the {8-Hearts}, putting two pair on board.

Stein checked to Woodke, and he continued the aggression with a bet of 1,250. Stein tanked for about 20 seconds before grabbing raising chips, and tossed out 3,600. Now it was Woodke's turn in the tank, and he thought for about a minute before kicking in his cards, giving the pot to Stein.

Note on Late Entrants

Level 1 : 25/50, 0 ante

The WSOP POY qualifiers that have late registered for the event are being seated in the open seats at tables. As they sit we are updating the seat chart below.

Check Raise Works For Dolan

We walked over to see 2010 November Niner John Dolan heads up in a pot with Tuan Phan. The board read {8-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{j-Spades}, and even though there was only about 2,000 in the middle, Phan had bet out 4,025. Despite the big bet, Dolan was not deterred, and he check raised to 8,400. Phan was a believer of the bet, as he kicked his cards towards the dealer. Despite winning that pot, Dolan is down from his original starting stack of 30,000.
