Bunal Lives to Fight Another Hand

Level 14 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Florencio Bunal put in a large raise from under the gun, to 14,000. Action folded to Matt Matros in the big blind, who moved all in with a covering stack. Bunal thought for a minute, then reluctantly folded, showing {k-Spades}{q-Spades} as he did so. Matros declined to show his cards as well, but said he would have been ahead if Bunal had called.

Bunal is now quite short stacked, with only 28,000 in front of him. Matros climbs to 145,000.

Ramdin Takes a Beat

Level 14 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Victor Ramdin called a preflop raise of 4,500, as did one other player. Both players checked to Ramdin on the {q-Spades}{5-Clubs}{8-Spades} flop, and he bet 6,000. The first player folded, and the preflop raiser shipped it for 38,200. Ramdin wasted little time before calling.

Ramdin: {k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}
Opponents: {10-Clubs}{10-Spades}

Ramdin was way in front, but that changed in a hurry when the {10-Diamonds} peeled off on the turn. A {q-Clubs} was of no use to Ramdin on the river, and he was forced to double his opponent up.

Dunst Chipping Up

Level 14 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

We arrived at the table on the turn to see Tony Dunst check the turn with board reading {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{j-Hearts}. The only other player in the hand also checked, and the river brought the {3-Diamonds}. Dunst then led out with a bet for 15,000. His opponent thought for a minute before folding.

Dunst has been steadily climbing today, and now has 108,000 in chips.

Badmayev Stays Alive

Level 14 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

A player in early position limped in, and a player in late position raised to 8,000. Oleg Badmayev, in the small blind, pushed all in for nearly 30,000. The limper counted out his chips before coming back over the top all in. The original raiser released his hand.

Badmayev: {a-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}
Opponent: {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}

The flop came down {8-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}, and the turn was a {7-Clubs}. Badmayev could now chop the pot if a five or ten hit the board. He did better than that though, as a {q-Clubs} fell on the river, leaving him with the best hand and a double up. The original raiser said he folded {10-}{10-}.

Nishijima Takes Massive Chiplead in Biggest Pot Yet

Level 15 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante
Thiago Nishijima has a dominant lead.
Thiago Nishijima has a dominant lead.

Thiago Nishijima opened for a raise in early position, and a fellow big stack to his left reraised him. Nishijima made the call, and the two saw a {q-Hearts}{k-Spades}{7-Hearts} flop heads up.

Nishijima checked, and his opponent came out with 13,200. Nishijima raised to 30,000, and his opponent came back over the top with 50,000. Nishijima pushed all in and was called immediately.

Nishijima: {10-Hearts}{9-Hearts}
Opponent: {q-Clubs}{q-Spades}

Nishijima held a gutshot straight draw and a flush draw, while his opponent had flopped a set of queens. The turn was the {j-Spades}, completing Nishijima's straight, but he still had to fade a pair on the board. The river came a {6-Clubs}, and Nishijima pumped his fist in celebration. He's now the overwhelming chipleader.

Mathews Flops Outs, Hits

Level 15 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

Rory Mathews got it all in before the flop against an opponent who held {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs}. Mathews was trailing with {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}, but a flop of {q-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} improved his position considerably. The turn brought a {2-Diamonds}, leaving Mathews' opponent drawing dead, and Mathews had him covered.

Balsiger Cripples Engel

Level 15 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante
Jake Balsiger
Jake Balsiger

In three hands, Ari Engel went from having a big stack to being knocked out of the tournament.

In the first hand, Jake Balsiger raised to 5,000 from the button, and Engel called from the small blind. The flop came {3-Spades}{a-Clubs}{8-Hearts}. Engel checked, and Balsiger continued for 4,500. Engel called, bringing the {a-Spades} on the turn. Engel checked again, and Balsiger bet out for 9,000. Engel again called, and the dealer completed the board with the {j-Clubs}. Engel checked a third time, and Balsiger bet out for 14,000. Engel called again. Balsiger turned over {7-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} for a pure bluff. Engel had snapped it off with {a-Diamonds}{6-Spades}. After the hand, Balsiger was down to 118,000, while Engel had 123,000.

On the very next hand, Balsiger again opened the action with a raise to 5,000. Engel three-bet to 12,700 from the small blind. Balsiger then four-bet to 21,500. Engel thought for a few moments, and put in a re-raise to 35,000. Balsiger then six-bet shoved all-in, and Engel went into the tank. He looked like he wanted to call, but was hesitant, and at one point he even said, "I'm taking a minute to compose myself." He did eventually make the call, turning over {9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}. Balsiger showed {a-Hearts}{7-Spades}, and he would need help. The board gave it to him, running out {k-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{j-Spades}{a-Clubs}{7-Clubs}, giving him two pair.

The stacks were very close, and the dealer counted out Balsiger's remaining stack as 97,800. It turned out Engel had him outchipped by 7,000, but Engel was now severely crippled.

Engel had the button on the next hand, and everyone folded around to him. He min-raised to 4,800, leaving himself just a little behind. Sergey Tikhonov in the small blind was the only caller. Tikhonov mistakenly thought Engel was all in (the dealer was seated between them) and exposed his cards, showing {q-}{3-}. The floor ruled that the hand would continue, and the last of Engel's chips went in the middle on the queen high flop. Engel showed {10-}{10-}, and Tikhonov won the pot with his pair of queens.

Engel was eliminated, Tikhonov is up to 135,000, and Balsiger climbed to 255,000 after his double-up.
