Judah Takes From Shchmelev

Level 22 : 8,000/16,000, 0 ante

Action folded to Vladimir Shchmelev in the small blind who raised to 45,000. Mel Judah called from the big.

The flop came down {K-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{7-Spades} and Shchmelev fired off 50,000. Mel Judah took a second look at his cards, grabbed a stack of T25,000 green chips and raised it to 200,000.

Shchmelev shot up in his chair, looked at his cards, then threw them into the muck rather quickly. Judah raked in the pot and pushed himself closer to that 1 million chip mark.

Quads for Shchmelev

Level 22 : 8,000/16,000, 0 ante

Ashly Butler raised to 50,000 on the button, and Brian Hacker and Vladimir Shchmelev called from the blinds.

Everyone checked the {4-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{q-Spades} flop, and the {q-Hearts} arrived on the turn. Again, everyone checked. The river was a third queen, the {q-Diamonds}. Hacker checked, Shchmelev bet 50,000, and Butler called. Shchmelev tossed the {q-Clubs} into the middle. Butler mucked his hand, saying he had pocket kings.

All In, Call, and Chop

Level 24 : 12,000/24,000, 0 ante

Action began on Brian Hacker who potted before the flop to 84,000. In the next seat over Vladimir Shchmelev repotted to 252,000. Action folded back around to Hacker who moved all in and he was quickly called by Shchmelev.

Shchmelev: {A-Hearts}{A-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{10-Hearts}
Hacker: {A-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}

The board rolled out {5-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{2-Hearts} giving Shchmelev a flush for high and Hacker an ace-six for low. That was good enough for a chop pot for the two men.

Brian Hacker Eliminated in 4th Place ($91,085)

Brian Hacker - 4th Place
Brian Hacker - 4th Place

Brian Hacker opened for a raise on the button, and Vladimir Shchmelev repotted from the small blind. Mel Judah folded the big blind, and Hacker called off.

Hacker: {a-Spades}{2-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}
Shchmelev: {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}

A flop of {7-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{2-Hearts} gave Hacker a set and Shchmelev a low draw. The turn was a {10-Clubs}, and Shchmelev added a jack to the list of cards he was seeking. The dealer burned and turned over a {j-Spades} as the river card, sending Hacker to the rail.

Butler Check Raises Two, Pays Off Shchmelev On The Third

Level 25 : 15,000/30,000, 0 ante

On one of the first hands back from break, Ashly Butler and Vladimir Shchmelev got it all in. Shchmelev opened the pot with a raise to 70,000 and he was called by Butler in the big blind.

On the flop of {2-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{7-Spades} Butler check raised a 60,000 chip bit from Shchmelev to 325,000. Shchmelev quickly went all in and Butler called.

Butler: {6-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{3-}{4-}
Shchmelev: {A-}{J-}{6-}{X-}.

Butler flopped a huge hand and looked good to win the pot and eliminate Shchmelev. The turn was the {9-Spades} improving no one, but the river was the {A-Spades} giving Shchmelev a better high hand, and chopping the pot as Butler still had a three-four for the low.

On the next hand after a raise and a call, Butler check raised again on a flop of {Q-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{J-Diamonds} against Shchmelev, but this time Shchmelev folded.

On the third hand Shchmelev raised from the button to 60,000 and was called by Butler in the big blind. Butler check called a 50,000 chip bet from Shchmelev on the {7-Spades}{7-Hearts}{10-Clubs} flop. The turn was the {K-Diamonds} and both players checked to see the {3-Clubs} on the river. There, Butler check called a 125,000 chip bet from Shchmelev but mucked when he was shown {10-Clubs}{7-Spades}{5-Spades}{4-Clubs} for a full house from Shchmelev.

Butler Gets Scooped

Level 25 : 15,000/30,000, 0 ante

Ashly Butler put Vladimir Shchmelev all in on a flop of {6-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{8-Hearts}. He called.

Butler: {4-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{10-Spades}{10-Clubs}
Shchmelev: {a-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}

Butler was ahead with a pair of tens and a flush draw, while Shchmelev had a better low draw and a better straight draw. The turn was a {k-Diamonds}, changing nothing and leaving Butler in prime position to scoop the pot and enter heads-up play with a huge lead. However, the river came {7-Hearts}, and though Butler initially thought he was chopping with a straight against Shchmelev's low, Shchmelev had the better straight with a nine-high one, so he scooped Butler and grabbed the chip lead.
