Arieh, Pearson Chop Massive Stud-Eight Pot

Level 17

Stud Eight or Better

Travis Pearson bet out on fourth street with two babies, Benjamin Pollak raised with a ten-seven, and Josh Arieh called with four-king. Pearson called.

On fifth street, Pearson caught an eight and bet out again, Pollak, who got an ace, again raised. Arieh had two kings on board now, so he cold-called again. Pearson put the last of his chips in, and Arieh and Pollak called.

Sixth street brought a third king for Arieh and a second seven for Pollak. Arieh bet. Pollak looked disgusted when he mucked after some thought. The dealer tossed out seventh street to Arieh and Pearson.

Arieh: {a-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{3-Hearts}/{4-Spades}{k-Clubs}{k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}
Pearson: {7-}{2-}{4-}/{4-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}

Pearson took the low with an eight-seven, and Arieh's three face-up kings were good for the high.

Wolasnky's Fours Are Good

Level 17

2-7 Triple Draw

Marco Johnson opened with a raise that was quickly three-bet by Steven Wolansky from the next seat over. The blinds released and Johnson called.

Johnson drew two and Wolansky opted to draw three. Both players checked and on the second draw Johnson took two once more and Wolansky drew two.

Johnson checked and Wolansky bet. Johnson called and drew one on the final draw. Wolansky also took one.

Johnson cut out a bet and Wolansky went into the tank, all the while shuffling enough chips to call. In the end, he opted to do so.

Johnson fanned {7-}{7-}{6-}{5-}{2-} for a pair of sevens.

"Pair of sevens?" asked Wolansky. "Pair of fours!"

Wolansky fanned {4-}{4-}{7-}{3-}{2-} triumphantly and was able to take down the pot. He's now sitting on 210,000 while Johnson has fallen to 245,000.

On the other side of the room, Andrey Zaichenko was eliminated in unknown action during a hand of Stud Eight-or-better

Malm Cripples Tsodikov

Level 17

2-7 Triple Draw

Michael Malm, Rostislav Tsodikov and James Van Alstyne each put in three bets before the first draw.

Tsodikov, in the small blind, drew one. Malm, in the big blind, and Van Alstyne, in middle position, each drew two. Everyone checked.

Draws went the same the second time around. Tsodikov checked, Malm bet, and both players called.

Tsodikov drew one again, and Malm stood pat. Van Alstyne also drew one. Everyone checked the final betting round, and Tsodikov showed the {q-Diamonds}. That wasn't good enough to beat Malm's {10-}{7-}{5-}{3-}{2-}, however, and he raked in the pot.

Tsodikov Out

Level 17

2-7 Triple Draw

Rostislav Tsodikov, who was just crippled in the previous hand, was all in for his tournament life the very next hand against Dario Alioto. We arrived at the table after the final draw to see Tsodikov show {9-}{5-}{4-}{3-}{2-}. His nine-perfect was ultimately beaten by Alioto's {8-}{7-}{6-}{4-}{3-} and Tsodikov was sent to the rail.

Crain Catches Quads; Doubles Through Mueller

Level 17
Eric Crain (Day 1) Makes Quads to Double
Eric Crain (Day 1) Makes Quads to Double

No-Limit Hold'em

Eric Crain opened with a preflop raise to 5,000. Greg Mueller three-bet to 13,000 from the next seat over and it folded back to Crain who moved all in for 67,500 total. Mueller went into the tank.

"I told myself if you did that I was going to call," said Mueller to a motionless Crain.

After a moment of posturing, Mueller decided to go with it.

Crain: {J-Hearts}{8-Hearts}
Mueller: {A-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}

Mueller was out in the lead and for a brief moment in time it looked as if it'd stay that way as the {A-Diamonds} was the card in the window. However, as the dealer's hand revealed the rest of the flop, everyone gasped. The final two cards were the {J-Clubs} and the {J-Spades}, giving Crain flopped trips.

The {Q-Diamonds} hit the turn and Mueller needed to significantly improve on the river to beat Crain. The river was the {J-Diamonds}, however, and gave Crain quad jacks for good measure.

"I knew you were blowing up that hand," said Mueller. "It's unreal."

Mueller is now down to about 110,000 while Crain has doubled to around 140,000.
