Event #8: $2,500 Eight-Game Mix

Day 2 Started

Crain Leads 192 Remaining Players

Welcome back to our coverage of the 2013 World Series of Poker! We're here live from the Amazon Room floor for Event #8: $2,500 Eight-Game Mix. Yesterday saw 388 total participants hit the felt with the dreams of attaining this coveted mixed games bracelet. By the end of the night it was Eric Crain who was closest to achieving this goal as he bagged up 69,925 for the largest stack in the room.

Mixed games such as this always turn out the most star-studded fields packed with poker's elite. With the best competing against the best, it's an obvious certainty that some will fall quicker than others. Day 1 saw many players eliminated from play including Jennifer Harman, Mike Matusow, Matt Glantz, Alexander Kostritsyn, Daniel Negreanu, Brian Hastings, Jason Mercier, Barry Greenstein and last year’s champ David “ODB” Baker.

While all of those recognizable names have fallen, the field still remains stacked with many top pros still in contention. Last year's runner-up, Greg Mueller is one such name on that list. Mueller finished just one spot short of a bracelet in 2012 and will be returning for Day 2 this year with a stack of 20,200. Others who are still in contention include Neal Friets (50,425), Marco Johnson (46,825), Kai Chang (44,150), Andy Bloch (36,525), Kyle Bowker (36,000), Scott Seiver (35,275), Erick Lindgren (34,825), Paul Volpe (28,400) and Phil Ivey (18,550).

Cards will be in the air at 2:00 PM PST, so be sure to stay tuned to all of the live updates as we enter and march through the second day of mixed game play!

Myung Sees Early Exit

Level 9

PLO

John Myung began today as one of the shortest stacks in the room and was unable to gain any momentum today. We caught up to find him all in on a flop of {Q-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{K-Diamonds} against Michael Malm.

Myung: {A-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}
Malm: {K-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{9-Clubs}

Malm was ahead at the moment with top two and stayed that way as the {5-Hearts} turned and the {5-Clubs} rivered. Myung saw an early exit while Malm was able to pad his stack a bit to around 68,000.

One For Mueller

Level 9

We caught up with the action to see a board of {4-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{10-Hearts}. Greg Mueller led out for 400 and Matthew Kaufman put out a raise to 1,100. Mueller flat called to see a river.

The dealer rapped the table and produced the {10-Clubs} on the river. Mueller checked and Kaufman put out a bet of 1,600. Mueller thought for a moment before calling. He tabled {K-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{5-Clubs} which prompted Kaufman to muck his hand.

Mueller dragged in the pot and is now up to about 24,000.

Ivey Putting the Pressure On

Level 9

PLO

The Phil Ivey machine is gaining steam, and the other players in the room would do well to watch out.

In a hand we caught, Vanessa Selbst and two other players checked to Ivey on the button after the flop came {7-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{k-Diamonds}. Ivey fired out 1,500, and only the cutoff made the call. The turn brought the {5-Spades}, and the cutoff checked. Ivey turned it up a notch with 4,500 this time, and cutoff called after some thought. The came {3-Hearts}, and the cutoff checked again. Ivey announced all in and the cutoff quickly folded.
