The Push to the End Starts Soon in Event #37: $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha

Brandon Paster
Brandon Paster

Yesterday at the 2014 World Series of Poker, we saw a field of 967 whittled down to 113 players by the end of the evening in Event #37: $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha.

This meant the players were already in the money and now they come into play today knowing that at a minimum they've made a profit. Looking to do more than just turn a small profit is the current chip leader Brandon Paster who bagged an impressive 135,300 in chips.

Not far behind him is bracelet winner, Fabrice Soulier, who had a stack of 129,300 when all was said and done. Michael Wang was a close third ending with 113,900 in chips.

There are plenty of notables lurking in the pack looking to make their mark in this event. Heading the way among those names is none other than Erick Lindgren who ended the day with a top five stack of 100,000 in chips.

Others joining him in their pursuit of WSOP glory are Taylor Paur, Galen Hall, Layne Flack, Kevin Saul, Bryan Micon, Martins Adeniya, Scott Seiver, and the king of cashing at this year's WSOP, Humberto Brenes.

Play will resume within the next hour at 1 p.m. Las Vegas time. PokerNews will be here for all the action with updates throughout the day. Tune in and find out who pushes through to the end!

Horowitz Among First Casualties

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 0 ante

Michael Horowitz repotted preflop to find himself all in for less than 20 big blinds and PJ Cha looked him up.

Horowitz: {2-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{A-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}
Cha: {A-Clubs}{A-Spades}{K-Spades}{8-Clubs}

Horowitz was in bad shape preflop but picked up a draw after the {9-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} flop and {8-Spades} turn. But the {5-Clubs} bricked on the river, sending Horowitz to the rail as one of the first players out early on Day 2.

Jonas Mackoff Doubles Up Early On

We weren't able to witness the hand or action but we saw Jonas Mackoff being shipped a full double-up of his remaining stack of 33,300 from Peter Charalambous.

The board was {Q-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{K-Hearts}{6-Hearts} and Mackoff had {K-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}{J-Spades}{5-Clubs} for a flopped flush draw that turned into a set of kings on the turn. Mackoff was up to 72,800 after the hand while Charalambous slipped to approximately 20,000.

Kosakowski Gets Aces Cracked

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 0 ante

Gary Kosakowski returned to the tables with eight big blinds left and got that stack in preflop with {A-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{2-Spades}. He got looked up by a player that got moved to the table with the double-suited hand {A-Clubs}{K-}{10-}{7-Clubs}. The opponent turned the world with a flush draw and the open-ended straight draw, then indeed peeled a club on the river to score the knockout.

Vega Meister Reports for Duty

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 0 ante

While Jason Hallee ran out of chips on Table 444, we noticed another big pot going on two tables over.

Alfredo Vega Meister — who had been listed as "DID NOT REPORT" in the overnight counts — raised the pot preflop and Michael Paski repotted to about 9,000. Vega Meister called and then moved all in after the {7-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{4-Hearts} flop, having his opponent covered slightly.

Paski called off for his last 17,000 and turned over {A-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{A-Spades}{J-Clubs}. Vega Meister was behind with {J-Spades}{7-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{10-Hearts} but had hit a monster draw. The {4-Spades} turn improved Paski to trips, but the {8-Spades} river gave Vega Meister the straight and the pot.

Humberto Brenes Bruised Off

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 0 ante

Following a {8-Hearts}{3-Spades}{9-Hearts} flop, Humberto Brenes was already all in from the big blind with Fabrice Soulier (cutoff) and Taylor Paur (button) still active in the hand. Soulier checked and then folded when Paur bet the pot of 9,800.

Paur: {J-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{K-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}
Brenes: {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}

"Ace, please," demanded Brenes from the dealer but his request was denied as the board completed with the {9-Clubs} turn and the {Q-Diamonds} river. Brenes double-checked his cards once again and then threw them towards the middle of the table, having been eliminated.

With his finish, the PokerStars Pro from Costa Rica records his eighth cash already at the 2014 World Series Of Poker.
