Evan McNiff and Jordan Morgan Heads Up
Evan McNiff and Jordan Morgan Heads Up

The two remaining players, Jordan Morgan and Evan McNiff, were exhausted and decided to call it quits for the day after playing through 10 long levels. With less than 20 minutes remaining in Level 31, Morgan and McNiff started discussing, and quickly agreed, that they should just finish their battle the following day.

“It’s been a long day, man,” Morgan said to the Tournament Director.

The event began on Saturday and 1,914 players paid the $1,500 registration fee to create a prize pool of $2,583,900. By the end of Day 1, just 212 remained and the players were only 14 spots from the money. It took less than an hour to burst the bubble and then players started dropping from the tournament quickly. By the end of Day 2, 15 players bagged up chips to go into what they thought would be the final day.

Some big name players made the money including Vinny Pahuja, who is experiencing a great series. Pahuja cashed for the fifth time since the series began, finishing 12th for $27,337 on Day 2. Other in-the-money finishes came from Roberto Romanello, Randal Flowers, Harrison Gimbel, Yevgeniy Timoshenko, Loni Harwood, Thomas Muehloecker, Barry Greenstein, Max Silver, Owen Crowe, Joe Serock, Shawn Buchanan, Jackie Glazier, Jeff Madsen, and Sofia Lövgren.

Notables making an appearance and busting on Day 1 before the bubble burst were William Reynolds, Amanda Musumeci, Humberto Brenes, Tony Dunst, Ami Barer, Andy Frankenberger, Dave Ulliott, Mark Radoja, Vladimir Geshkenbein, Athanasios Polychronopoulos, Dominik Nitsche, Antonio, Esfandiari, and Marvin Rettenmaier.

The unofficial final table was set a few hours into Day 3 and it took over an hour for the 10th-place finisher to be eliminated. The unfortunate honour went to Brandon Ageloff who had come into the day as the chip leader with the only player holding over a million chips. He lost a few big pots and then got it in with trip nines against Morgan’s full house on the turn. The river bricked and he left to collect $27,337.

After that, they started to bust out quickly. Michael “Maddog” Anselm was next to go in ninth for $35,063, followed by Ryan Spittles, the lone non-American on the final table from UK, who earned $45,554 for eighth.

Joseph Iarussi was knocked out in seventh for $59,920, and then Robert Chorlian was eliminated in sixth for $79,842. Bryan Dillon was the first player to earn more than $100K when he finished in fifth place for $107,800, followed by Ray Foley in fourth for $147,463. The heads-up match was set once Jason Johnson, who also final-tabled the Millionaire Maker earlier in this series, busted in third place and earned $204,464.

The heads-up clash between Morgan and McNiff began at 7:30 p.m. local time, and it was almost six hours later that they bagged up their chips one last time. It took only 78 hands to go from a final table of nine to the final two, but there has been just shy of 200 hands of heads-up play already and the winner has not been settled yet.

Morgan and McNiff ended the day with very even chip stacks, so this event can very easily go either way. They will return at 1 p.m. to determine who will earn the gold bracelet and the top-prize money of $478,102.

Hand #198: Morgan raised to 160,000 and McNiff called. The flop was {q-Hearts}{5-Spades}{a-Spades} and McNiff checked. Morgan bet out 150,000. McNiff called and the turn card was the {7-Clubs}. Morgan: {a-Spades}{k-Hearts}
McNiff: {k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}

McNiff's rail cheered for the anticipated win and it was looking good through to the turn of {10-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{8-Clubs}. Everything changed when Morgan spiked an ace on the river. The dealer flipped over {a-Clubs} and McNiff's rail erupted with groans and shouts of "you've got to be kidding" and "so sick!"

Morgan scored the huge double up to regain the chip lead.

Hand #200: Morgan raised to 160,000 and won the pot.

Level 26 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante
Ray Foley - 4th Place
Ray Foley - 4th Place

Hand #67: Jordan Morgan raised to 80,000 from the button and Evan McNiff made the call in the big blind. The flop came {a-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{a-Clubs} and both players checked. The turn card was the {8-Spades} and both players checked again. The river was flipped over the {q-Hearts} and McNiff led out for 120,000 to force a fold from Morgan and win the pot.

Hand #68: Jason Johnson raised to 80,000 from the dealer position and McNiff three-bet to 200,000 from the small blind to win the pot.

Hand #69: Ray Foley pushed all in from the small blind and the dealer counted it out at 740,000. Jordan Morgan made the call and Foley's tournament life was at risk.

Foley: {k-Spades}{9-Diamonds}
Morgan: {a-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}

The flop gave Morgan top pair with {a-Spades}{7-Spades}{8-Hearts}. Foley couldn't pull ahead through the turn of {q-Hearts} and river of {2-Clubs} and lost his stack to Morgan. He finished fourth in this tournament and will be paid $147,463 for his run.

Bryan Dillon Eliminated in 5th Place ($107,800)

Level 26 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante
Bryan Dillon - 5th Place
Bryan Dillon - 5th Place

Hand #57: Jason Johnson pushed all in when first to act and Bryan Dillon shoved over the top from the button.

Dillon: {8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}
Johnson: {k-Spades}{10-Spades}

The board ran out {k-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{6-Clubs} and Johnson earned the double up. The two players had just one chip difference in stacks, and that one chip went back to Dillon. He was left with just enough to cover a single 5,000 ante.

Hand #58: Dillon was forced all in with only an ante to his name. Jordan Morgan raised to 95,000 and got the rest of the players out of the way.

Dillon: {7-Spades}{4-Hearts}
Morgan: {q-Hearts}{j-Clubs}

Dillon's hand was in need of some assistance, and things were looking grim by the turn when the board read {3-Clubs}{8-Spades}{a-Spades}{8-Hearts}{4-Spades}. It picked up on the river, though. He found the {4-Spades} and quintupled up to 25,000.

Hand #59: Once again, Dillon was forced all in in the big blind. Johnson limped the small blind and Evan McNiff raised to 120,000 in the big blind. Johnson called and the flop was dealt {2-Hearts}{a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}. Johnson checked and McNiff continued for 135,000. Johnson made a raise to 300,000 and McNiff gave up. This left Johnson and Dillon to see the turn and river.

Johnson: {q-Hearts}{j-Hearts}
Dillon: {k-Clubs}{5-Hearts}

Dillon wasn't dead yet, but his fate was sealed when the last two cards were {10-Spades}{7-Hearts} to eliminate him from the tournament in fifth place for $107,800.

Hands #44-50: Two Boats on the River

Level 26 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante
Jordan Morgan doubles up through Evan McNiff
Jordan Morgan doubles up through Evan McNiff

Hand #44: Jason Johnson open-shoved all in from the small blind and won the blinds and antes.

Hand #45: Ray Foley raised to 80,000 when first to act and Bryan Dillon called in the big blind. The flop was {5-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{q-Spades} and Dillon checked. Foley bet 90,000 and Dillon let him have the pot.

Hand #46: Evan McNiff raised to 80,000 from the dealer position and won the pot preflop when the blinds let it go.

Hand #47: McNiff raised to 80,000 from the cutoff and Jordan Morgan made the call in the big blind. The flop was {2-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} and McNiff bet 90,000 when Morgan checked. Morgan called and the turn was flipped over: {6-Hearts}. Morgan checked again and McNiff made it 245,000. Morgan called. The river card was the {5-Diamonds} and Morgan led out for 425,000. McNiff pushed all in and Morgan called.

McNiff: {2-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}
Morgan: {5-Spades}{5-Hearts}

Both players had made a full house, but Morgan's was better with the fives full. Morgan secured a massive double up and is a clear chip leader with more than half of the chips in play.

Hand #48: Morgan raised to 100,000 and won the pot.

Hand #49: Johnson pushed all in from the small blind and scooped up the blinds and antes.

Hand #50: McNiff pushed all in from the small blind and Dillon made the call.

McNiff: {10-Spades}{9-Clubs}
Dillon: {a-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}

McNiff needed to connect with something to avoid elimination, and he made a pair by the turn when the board ran out {2-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{9-Spades}{2-Spades} to give him the double up.

Joseph Iarussi - 7th Place

Hand #33: Joseph Iarussi opened to 65,000 under the gun, Evan McNiff called from the big blind, and the two went heads-up to a {2-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{7-Diamonds} flop.

McNiff check-called a bet of 165,000 from Iarussi and the {4-Hearts} fell on the turn. McNiff check-shoved a bet of 300,000 from Iarussi, who made the call, putting his tournament life on the line.

McNiff: {6-Hearts}{7-Hearts}
Iarussi: {9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}

Iarussi was in big trouble and needed help to survive. The river {8-Diamonds} did not help Iasurri and he busted in 7th place.
