Smith Extends His Lead With Aces

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Dan Smith
Dan Smith

We caught the action on the river with a board showing {10-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{J-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} when Dan Smith bet 140,000 after his opponent had checked.

While Ryan Hall went into the tank Fredric Stockfield had already gone all in on an earlier street and he was awaiting his fate.

Eventually Hall called, creating another huge pot, and Smith tabled {A-Clubs}{A-Hearts}.

Hall showed {K-Diamonds}{K-Clubs} and Stockfield was knocked out holding {Q-Hearts}{Q-Spades}. Smith raked in another big one to extend the lead, and he's closing in on the 2,000,000-chip mark.

Vannucci Doubles Through von Kriegenbergh

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

We arrived to find Rab Vannucci and Taylor von Kriegenbergh looking down at a completed board of {Q-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}{A-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}. Vannucci had moved all in for his last 70,000 and von Kriegenbergh was in the tank. The clock was called and ticked down to the final second.

With just one second left, von Kriegenbergh picked up chips and dropped them into the middle of the table. Vannucci showed {K-Hearts}{10-Hearts} for a winning flush, besting von Kriegenbergh's {J-Diamonds}{J-Spades} for a set of jacks. Vannucci took the pot and doubled to 365,000.

Valerstein KO's Bruning

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

Richard Bruning raised to 15,000 from late position and Roman Valerstein three-bet to 37,000 from the button. The blinds got out of the way, Bruning four-bet shipped for 460,000, and Valerstein called.

Bruning: {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}
Valerstein: {A-Clubs}{K-Hearts}

Valerstein jumped into the lead after pairing his ace on the {8-Hearts}{A-Hearts}{7-Spades} flop. Bruning found no help on the {3-Diamonds} turn or the {9-Clubs} river and he was eliminated from play. Valerstein picked up the pot and now has 1.15 million in chips.

Two Eliminations on Table 431

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

Brett Levitzke was all in and at risk for 110,000 or so when we arrived at Table 431, and it looked like the money went in on the turn of a {7-Clubs}{3-Spades}{3-Clubs}{6-Clubs} board. He was drawing very slim against the {a-Clubs}{10-Clubs} of Rasmus Larsen, and the {q-Hearts} bricked off on the river.

Larsen chipped up above one million.

The very next hand, Ara Melikian, who received a penalty earlier for exposing his hand, moved all in from early position. Nicholas Heather called late position, as did a third player, and the action was checked on a flop of {3-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}. Heather put out a bet on the turn ({a-Hearts}), his opponent folded, and the two hands were opened.

Heather: {4-Hearts}{4-Spades}
Melikian: {6-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}

The {j-Hearts} completed the board, and Melikian was eliminated.

Madsen's Queens Chase Out Salter, West

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

Jeff Madsen opened in early position, and Jeffrey West made it 32,500 in the next spot. To West's left, Louis Salter came out with a cold four-bet to about 60,000, and Madsen made it 105,000 to go when action folded to him.

"I want to show the camera," West said, folding after some thought. Salter insta-mucked behind him.

"We might have had the same hand," Madsen said. He hesitated as if deciding whether to show, and he flipped {q-Diamonds}{q-Spades}.

After a bit more talk, Madsen guessed that he had chased out kings, saying he was "supposed to have aces there."

West nodded.

"I had two black kings," he said.
