Day 2 of Event #35: $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better; Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better; Big O (5-Card PLO/8) is done and dusted at the 2018 World Series of Poker. The day started with 225 players and after another ten hours of play, just 31 players are left for Day 3. James Alexander has bagged the chip lead with 466,500 in chips to lead the field into the third day.

Alexander said the day has been a rollercoaster for him and his chip stack went up and down and then again. He started the day with 50,175 in chips and has been able to build quite the stack by the end of the day. His day started off well by winning a big hand against Jared Koppel to propel himself into the chip lead.

By the end of the day, it looked like Robert Mizrachi was going to end up with the chip lead, but right in the last couple of hands, Alexander managed to sneak up on Mizrachi and surpass his tablemate in the chip counts.

Mizrachi ended the day third in chips with 439,000, right behind Gabriel Ramos with 452,000 in chips. Out of the 5,797,500 chips in play, Alexander, Ramos and Mizrachi were able to win 1,375,500 of them, which gives them 23% of the chips in play with 31 players left in the tournament.

Other notable players that made it through on Day 2 include Ryan Hughes (276,000), Jon Turner (218,000), Carol Fuchs (215,000), Mark Gregorich (176,500), and Bart Hanson (35,000). At the start of the tournament, Hanson tweeted that this was his favorite tournament on the schedule this summer and he's making the most out of it. Hanson has been nurturing a short stack for most of the tournament but did manage to make it through to Day 3.

Phil Hellmuth
Phil Hellmuth got eliminated late on Day 2

Darryll Fish is one of the players that showed up for Day 2 but wasn’t fortunate enough to make it to the money. Dan Heimiller, Connor Drinan, Chris Ferguson, and Stephen Chidwick all busted out before the money was reached. Martin Staszko (103rd - $2,258), Andrew Barber (84th - $2,444), Calen McNeil (71st - $2,444), Max Pescatori (69th - $2,631), Barry Greenstein (53rd - $3,256), Erik Seidel (43rd - $3,741) and Phil Hellmuth (35th - $5,252) all did manage to make the money but they didn’t survive Day 2.

14-time bracelet winner Hellmuth's stack got decimated in the final level of the day when he ran into Eddie Blumenthal's top set in Omaha Hi-Lo. Hellmuth had flopped middle pair and a straight draw a hand where Blumenthal accidentally opened with a call instead of an intended raise. Three bets went in on the flop and one on the turn. Hellmuth improved to inferior trips on the river, paid another bet of Blumenthal off and was shown the bad news.

"Are you f*cking kidding me? This goofball doesn't even know how to play and he's got all of the chips," Hellmuth fired as he bounced from his seat. Shortly after, Hellmuth's remaining chips vanished as well to end his attempt at bracelet #15 in 35th place.

On Monday, the tournament will continue with Day 3 at 2 p.m. The plan is to play down to a winner, but given the deep structure and still 31 players in the tournament it is very unlikely the tournament will come to a conclusion, and a fourth day will be needed to decide a winner.

Continue to follow along with the PokerNews live reporting team for all of the live updates throughout the event.

Blumenthal Leaves Hellmuth on Crumbs

Level 20 : 2,000/4,000, 0 ante

Phil Hellmuth

Omaha-8

Eddie Blumenthal mistakenly misread the game that was being played and his attempt at a raise was limited to a call. Phil Hellmuth came along in the small blind along with Jon Turner in the big blind.

The flop came {q-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} and the action checked to Blumenthal who tossed in a bet. Hellmuth instantly check-raised and Turned got out of the way. Blumenthal put in a three-bet and Hellmuth just called.

The turn was the {10-Spades} and Hellmuth check-called another bet from Blumenthal. The {8-Spades} on the river paired the board and Hellmuth checked again. Blumenthal moved a bet into the middle and Hellmuth quickly called. Blumenthal rolled over {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} for a full house and Hellmuth bounced from his seat.

"Are you f*cking kidding me? This goofball doesn't even know how to play and he's got all of the chips." Hellmuth flashed the {a-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{5-Clubs} for trip eights and then his cards went flying to the muck.

Hellmuth Lays Down the Flopped Nuts

Level 18 : 1,200/2,400, 0 ante

Phil Hellmuth

Big-O

The action folded around to the button who just limped in and Phil Hellmuth called from the small blind. Jon Turner checked his option and the flop came {6-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}. Hellmuth and Turner both checked and the button fired out a bet of 5,000. Hellmuth called and Turner tagged along as well.

The turn brought the {6-Spades} and the action checked around to the {5-Spades} on the river. Hellmuth checked one more time and Turner tossed in a bet of 20,000. The button quickly folded and Hellmuth rose from his seat, ready to give another speech.

"I flopped the nuts," Hellmuth belted out. "I have to let him get away with it." Hellmuth tossed the {7-}{4-}{2-} to the muck and the pot was sent to Turner. "You just have to let them bluff you a couple times and then your chips go like this," as he gestured his stack rising.

Shulman Livens Up the Room

Level 16 : 800/1,600, 0 ante
Allyn Jaffrey Shulman
Allyn Jaffrey Shulman

Big-O

Michael Ross opened to 4,000 from the cutoff and Alynn Shulman flat-called on the button. Renan Bruschi was in the small blind and three-bet to 17,600. With the action back on Ross, he moved all in 35,100.

"Ooohhh we got a big pot, guys!" Kristopher Monteith yelled.

"Shut up and let me think," Shulman responded. She tanked for a couple minutes, apologizing to the table repeatedly for the deliberation. Shulman eventually stuck in her last 30,400 chips and Bruschi called as all three hands were tabled.

Allyn Shulman: {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{4-Spades}
Michael Ross: {a-Spades}{q-Spades}{8-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}
Renan Bruschi: {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{5-Spades}{3-Clubs}

"Diamonds! Diamonds! Give the lady some diamonds!" Shulman was screaming.

The flop came {j-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{5-Clubs} and it was both Ross and Bruschi who picked up a flush draw, Bruschi with the larger one. The turn brought the {j-Hearts} and Shulman was still in the lead with her aces.

"Aces! Aces!" Shulman continued to yell.

The river brought the {3-Spades} and, as the other two players were screaming out "ace-five" for their high hand, Shulman was still letting everyone know she had aces. "I have aces! And I have ace-four."

Everyone at the table just realized that Shulman also held the best low hand. "She scoops!" many of the players watching yelled. "I scoop! I scoop! Yeah, baby! It's hot in here," Shulman rejoiced with a couple of fist pumps.

It was the most exciting that has happened so far today in the Amazon gold section and the rest of the room feels a little rejuvenated with the excitement of Shulman.

Wood Wins Most of It

Chris Ferguson
Chris Ferguson

Big-O

While the flop was already on the table, in the form of {3-Clubs}{J-Spades}{5-Diamonds}, Chris Ferguson was facing a bet of 5,100 from David Wood. Ferguson made the call and so did Pascal Leyo on the other side of the table.

The turn was the {K-Diamonds} and Wood pushed all-in for 800. Ferguson pushed all-in for a little more and Leyo called.

Pascal Leyo: {A-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}{Q-Spades}{10-Hearts}{2-Clubs}
Chris Ferguson: {A-Hearts}{10-Spades}{3-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{2-Spades}
David Wood: {A-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}

The river was the {J-Diamonds} which gave Wood the full house to scoop the high hand and Ferguson won the side pot with his full house.

Cunningham Wins a Monster, McNeil Stays Alive

Level 11 : 250/500, 0 ante
Allen Cunningham
Allen Cunningham

Big-O

We arrived at the table to find Calen McNeil all in and his tournament life on the line. There was also a massive side pot brewing up between Allen Cunningham and Jonathan Shah. The board read {a-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{5-Spades} and the action was on Shah who made a pot-sized bet of 17,025. Cunningham thought for a moment and then check-raised all in. Shah quickly called and was the player at risk for around 35,000.

All three hands were tabled with just one card to come. Cunningham held {a-Diamonds}{q-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} while Shah turned over {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{10-Spades}{2-Hearts}{2-Clubs}. McNeil was cheering for one card to scoop the entire pot with {j-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{3-Spades}{2-Clubs}. "Give me a nine!" McNeil cheered.

The river was the {6-Diamonds} and Cunningham made the nut flush with the best low hand to scoop the massive side pot. He chopped the main pot with McNeil who had the nut low and Shah headed for the exit doors.

Welcome Back to Day 2 of the $1,500 Mixed Omaha

Bracelet
Bracelet

Another day of some split-pot poker is on tap with Day 2 of Event #35: $1,500 Mixed Omaha. There will be 226 players returning to the felt to take part in three different variants of Omaha; Limit Omaha Hi-Lo, Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo, and Pot-Limit Big-O.

Peter Neff grabbed the Day 1 chip lead after a strong finish to close out the opening ten levels. Neff bagged himself 91,450 chips but the list of notables hunting him down is endless. Hot on his tails is mixed game specialist, Matt Woodward, who already had himself a final table appearance this summer in the $1,500 H.O.R.S.E. event. Michael Ross also bagged a top five stack with 77,875 chips to return to.

Some other familiar faces to keep an eye out for include WSOP bracelet winners Andrew Barber (58,000), David Bach (34,800), Barry Greenstein (34,050), Carol Fuchs (33,300), and Phil Hellmuth (27,000). There should still be quite a bit of play before the money is reached with just 116 players taking home some cash. A min-cash is worth $2,258 but everyone has their sights set on the first-place prize of $211,781 and the WSOP gold bracelet.

The cards will be in the air at 2:00 p.m. local time with the action resuming on level 11. The blind levels will continue at 60-minute intervals with a 15-minute break after every two levels. There will also be a 60-minute dinner break after the sixth level of the day. Another ten levels are on the schedule with the day wrapping up around 2:00 a.m.
