Just 14 Players Stand In Between Chris Vitch and a $10K Stud8 Title Defense

Chris Vitch

Day 2 of the 2018 World Series of Poker Event #64: $10,000 Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo 8 or Better Championship saw 63 players return to action and eight more took advantage of late registration to bring the total field up to 141 players. That created a $1,325,400 prize pool with $364,387 reserved for the winner.

After ten levels of play, the field was whittled down to 15 players – who combine for eight bracelets – with defending champ Chris Vitch and his stack of 1.014 million leading the way. Others to bag big stacks were Scott Bohlman (883,000), Bryce Yockey (539,000), and Ken “Teach” Aldridge (538,000).

Joining them for Day 3 will be players like Andrew Kelsall (506,000), Jesse Martin (506,000), Tom Koral (392,000), and Mike Watson (348,000). Each of the remaining players are guaranteed $16,439 in prize money.

Tomorrow all eyes will be on Vitch, who last year topped a field of 125 players to win Event #48: $10,000 Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo 8 or Better Championship for $320,193. That marked his second bracelet after taking down the 2016 WSOP $2,500 Mixed Triple Draw. If Vitch can repeat he’ll accomplish a rare double feat of defending his title and winning a bracelet in three consecutive years.

Of course, not everyone was fortunate enough to bag and tag. Among those to leave empty handed throughout the day were Benny Glaser, Adam Friedman, Shirley Rosario, Shaun Deeb, David Benyamine, and bubble boy Chris Klodnicki, who made aces up but busted to Richard Sklar’s seventh-street flush.

Before the night was over a slew of players would head to the payout desk including Andrew Yeh (22nd - $14,739), Tim Finne (21st - $14,739), Daniel Negreanu (20th - $14,739), Yuval Bronshtein (19th - $14,739), Jose Paz-Gutierrez (18th - $14,739), Tim Marsters (17th - $14,739), and Sklar (16th - $16,439).
