Can Iowa's Matthew “Michmeister” Mich Go Four for Four?

Matthew “Michmeister” Mich
Matthew “Michmeister” Mich

At the beginning of the month, Iowa’s Matthew “Michmeister” Mich had just $3,344 in live tournament earnings, nearly half of which came from two small WSOP cashes, one in 2018 and the other in 2019.

What those paltry numbers don’t reveal is his experience and success online, which has been on display here in the 2020 WSOP online bracelet events as he’s cashed in all three events thus far. It started when he took 19th in Event #1: $500 NLH Kickoff, and on Thursday he final tabled Event #2: $1,000 NLH 8-Handed Deepstack for $15,628. In Event #3: $400 NLH, he placed 298th for a $602.20 min-cash.

Mich, a former poker dealer, traveled to Las Vegas with Taylor Howard, a Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) champ who finished in 26th place in the aforementioned kickoff event.

“He was only planning on being out here a couple weeks, but now I think he might stay with me and chase the leaderboard,” Howard said of his friend.

Mich, one of the breakout performers of the online series thus far, is in action today looking to go four for four.

Moreira Gets Counterfeited with Running Cards

With blinds at 500/1.000 (125) ante, Alexandre "Apalexpex" Moreira opened under the gun for 2,812 and "S_Dot_BBH" three-bet to 4,624 from middle position. Action folded around to Ray "marriedAmilf" Medin who called from the small blind and Moreira came along as well.

The flop came {10-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{10-Hearts} and action was checked to "S_Dot_BBH" who moved all in for 62,404. Medin folded while Moreira called for less holding 26,025.

"S_Dot_BBH": {a-Spades}{q-Spades}
Alexandre "Apalexpex" Moreira: {8-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}

Moreira made the correct call but the board finished with running nines {9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} to counterfeit his pocket aces, eliminating him from the tournament.

Conrad "iamnotblack" Simpson Grinding Online from the Hot Tub

Conrad "iamnotblack" Simpson
Conrad "iamnotblack" Simpson

Last December, Conrad "iamnotblack" Simpson topped a field of 96 runners to win the World Series of Poker Circuit Harrah’s Las Vegas Event #13: $400 Mixed PLO/NLH 8-Handed for a career-high $8,978 and his first gold ring.

It was a breakout win for the grinder, who the day before watched his friend and roommate, Corey Paggeot, win a ring of his own.

"I love PLO. I play hold'em for the most part, but I like PLO. It's fun." said Simpson, who does video work for Matt Berkey’s Solve for Why.

Simpson, who was kind enough to send us these photos of him grinding from the hot tub, is off to a good start in this tournament currently sitting second in chips. He is looking for his second cash of the series after having finished in 106th place in Event #1: $500 NLH Kickoff, good for $1,080.

Hellmuth gets Lucky to Eliminate Modha

With blinds at 800/1,600 (200 ante), Phil "Lumestackin" Hellmuth opened for 4,000 from middle position, Puneeth "kimisraunchy" Modha three-bet all in for 26,738 and action folded back around to Hellmuth who called.

Phil "Lumestackin" Hellmuth: {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs}
Puneeth "kimisraunchy" Modha: {a-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}

Modha had Hellmuth dominated until the {8-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} flop appeared pairing Hellmuth's jack.

The {5-Spades} turn was no help to Modha nor was the {a-Spades} river which ended his tournament.

Shin Rebuys After Running into Aces

With blinds at 2,000/4,000 (250) ante, "draiman517" opened under the gun with a 4,000 min-raise and Mike "Mkspresident" Shin three-bet all in for 21,981 on the button.

The blinds folded and action was back on "draiman517" who called.

"draiman517"; {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs}
Mike "Mkspresident" Shin: {a-Diamonds}{j-Spades}

Shin jammed into a rough spot and things got worse after the case ace appeared on the {5-Spades}{a-Spades}{9-Diamonds} flop.

The board finished with the {2-Diamonds} on the turn followed by the {7-Diamonds} on the river and Shin rebought a new 30k stack.
