Papazian Wins Second Bracelet in Crazy Eights Event

This occasion marks Papazian’s second WSOP gold bracelet. Papazian’s first WSOP bracelet came in 2017, interestingly, in Event #60: $888 Crazy Eights No-Limit Hold’em 8-Handed. For that effort, he took home his first bracelet and $888,888. There’s no doubt that Papazian is now a big fan of the Crazy Eight tournaments and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him playing them in the future whenever he can.

Papazian entered Day 2 second in chips out of the 31 remaining players, partially sparked by an end of day pot where he eliminated Alejandro "adolfito" Sterling while holding… pocket eights. He used that stack to make his way to the final table on Day 2, propelled by a big pot he won that eliminated Ian "potamophobia" Matakis in 14th place.

Once he made the final table, he was able to avoid large pots for the most part and eventually made his way into three-handed play. A big turning point in three-handed play occurred when he took most of the stack of Santiago "La Papualda" Varela with a set of deuces versus top pair. That led to him getting into heads-up play as the chip leader against Tal Noach, and eventually winning the tournament after calling Noach’s river bluff and holding top two-pair.

This concludes the PokerNews coverage for this event in the 2021 GGPoker WSOP Online Series. Stay tuned as PokerNews continues to bring you coverage of all the bracelet events.

Tal Noach Eliminated in 2nd Place ($180,818)

Level 43 : 250,000/500,000, 60,000 ante

Alexandru Papazian opened to 1,000,000 and Tal Noach called.

The two players saw a flop of {6-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}. Noach check-raised Papazian's bet of 699,600 up to 2,600,000, and Papazian called.

The turn brought the {3-Clubs} and Noach led for 3,660,000 which got a call from Papazian. The {2-Clubs} completed the board and Noach put all of his 9,482,308 chips into the middle. After briefly thinking about his decision, Papazian made the call.

Alexandru Papazian: {q-Spades}{6-Hearts}
Tal Noach: {8-Clubs}{7-Hearts}

Noach missed his open-ended straight draw and Papazian's top two-pair was good for the pot, and the tournament victory.

Noach will receive $180,818 for his runner-up finish, while Papazian has won the $241,128 top prize, along with the WSOP gold bracelet.

Santiago "La Papualda" Varela Eliminated in 3rd Place ($135,595)

Level 42 : 200,000/400,000, 50,000 ante

In a big hand that turned the tides of three-handed play, Alexandru Papazian opened to 800,000 on the button and Santiago "La Papualda" Varela three-bet to 2,150,324 from the small blind. Tal Noach folded and Papazian called.

Varela continued for 1,552,352 on the {4-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} flop and Papazian called. The {k-Diamonds} turn saw another lead by Varela for 3,577,676 and once again a call from Papazian. The river {j-Hearts} saw another lead by Varela, this time for 6,155,352 and once again a call from Papazian.

Varela showed {k-Spades}{q-Diamonds} for a turned pair but Papazian held {2-Spades}{2-Clubs} for a flopped set and took down the huge pot.

A few hands later, Varela went all in from the small blind for his last 13 blinds and Tal Noach called in the big blind. Varela's {6-Hearts}{4-Hearts} was up against the {a-Diamonds}{j-Hearts} of Noach. The board ran out {a-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} {7-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds} to eliminate Varela in third place and get Papazian heads-up with Noach.

Cristian "Peitodeperu" Nagaki: {q-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}
Tal Noach: {a-Diamonds}{6-Spades}

Level 41 : 175,000/350,000, 45,000 ante

Santiago "La Papualda" Varela raised under the gun to 765,000, Tal Noach three-bet to 2,065,000, and Patrick "CocoTheDog" Mahoney put all his 8,288,159 chips in. Varela folded, Noach called, and hands were revealed.

Patrick "CocoTheDog" Mahoney: {a-Clubs}{k-Spades}
Tal Noach: {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}

Unfortunately for Mahoney, he ran into the rockets of Noach. The flop came {8-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{5-Spades}, and Mahoney was drawing dead on the {5-Diamonds} turn. The meaningless {3-Spades} came on the river and Mahoney was eliminated.

Tal Noach: {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}

The flop came {8-Spades}{k-Spades}{10-Clubs}, giving Noach a straight draw in addition to his two overcards. The turn was the {10-Hearts}, meaning Noach could also win the hand if the board paired again, and the river {k-Diamonds} indeed counterfeited Churbanov's sevens, eliminating him and sending Noach the chips.

Patrick "CocoTheDog" Mahoney: {a-Clubs}{j-Hearts}
