Gamble Leads After $1,500 Dealers Choice Day 1

Level 15 : 3,000/6,000, 0 ante
Nathan Gamble
Nathan Gamble

After 15 levels of play that saw many of the world's best mixed game players take to the felt, two-time bracelet winner Nathan Gamble will bring the chip lead into Monday's day 2 with 234,500.

Gamble was among 307 entrants on Sunday and led most of the way, aside from a small dip midway through the day that he quickly recovered from and never looked back.

Mixed game events always bring out the big names, and Sunday was no exception. Joining Gamble in the final 88 on Day 2 are Ray Henson (216,000), Ian O'Hara (201,000), Daniel Negreanu (115,500), Matt Glantz (115,000), Jon Turner (90,000), Eli Elezra (90,000), Phil Hellmuth (88,500), Brian Rast (81,500), Benny Glaser (65,000), Dylan Linde (59,000), Norman Chad (57,500), Adam Owen (47,000), and Ted Forrest (42,500).

The list of those that couldn't survive the day is equally impressive with the likes of Ben Yu, Carol Fuchs, Brandon Shack-Harris, Randy Ohel, and several others relegated to their next tournament.

The final 88 players will reconvene Monday at 3:00 p.m. in the Amazon room for ten 60-minute minute levels, where the final 47 will earn a minimum of $2,400, with the winner receiving $97,915 and a WSOP gold bracelet on Tuesday.

Stay tuned to PokerNews as we bring you all the Day 2 action from the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino.

Owen Doubles Through Hellmuth

Big O

Adam Owen stayed alive with a double-up courtesy of Phil "the Poker Brat" Hellmuth.

After a series of raises preflop, Owen was all-in for his final 27,000 chips.

Adam Owen: {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{8-Hearts}
Phil Hellmuth: {a-Hearts}{k-Spades}{q-Spades}{j-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}

The board ran out {10-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{3-Spades}{3-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}, giving no help to Hellmuth and breathing life into Owen's stack.

Big O Costs Gamble Big Time

Level 12 : 1,500/3,000, 0 ante
Nathan Gamble
Nathan Gamble

Just before players went to break, Nathan Gamble took a huge hit to his stack.

On a flop of {3-Spades}{2-Spades}{k-Diamonds}, his opponent committed all of his remaining 30,000 chip stack versus Gamble.

Opponent: {2-}{2-}{x-}{x-}{x-}
Nathan Gamble: {a-Hearts}{k-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{10-Spades}

A turn {3-Diamonds} filled up Gamble's opponent giving him the full double and creating the first real adversity for Gamble on the day.

Chris Lindner appears to still be the man to catch as the tournament enters the late stages of Day 1.

Not far behind him, however, are GG Poker Ambassador Daniel Negreanu, and GG streamer Kosei Ichinose.

Badacey

After Phil Hellmuth and his opponent both patted after the final draw, Hellmuth check-called a bet on a roughly 20,000 chip pot.

Hellmuth and his opponent each showed 8 lows with Badugis, but Hellmuth's hand pipped his opponent with an {8-}{5-}{4-}{2-}{a-}

No-Limit 2-7 Single Draw

William Lahti passed along his description of taking a large pot from Allen Kessler in No-Limit 2-7 Single Draw.

Kessler opened for 1,100, a late position player called, and Lahti shoved for his last 6,400.

Kessler re-shoved, forcing out the late position player, then drew one, but he was drawing dead against Lahti's pat {8-}{7-}{x-}{x-}{x-}

Kessler was left short and then busted shortly after.

A-5 Triple Draw

A player in early position limp-called a raise from Daniel Negreanu, and they went heads-up to the first draw.

Both players drew one card, with Negreanu's opponent check-calling a bet after the draw.

After they each drew one card again, Negreanu's opponent led into him on the first big bet round.

Negreanu laughed and exclaimed, "You screwed up! I would have bet for you!"

"Kid Poker" contemplated his next move, then eventually folded, claiming he made an 8 low.

Despite the loss, Negreanu still has 12,000 chips in front of him at table 507, and a healthy stack in the online event.

Daniel Negreanu has entered the mix in the Dealers Choice event and is also double-dipping with one of the WSOP Online bracelet events.

No word on his online stack size, but his live stack could use some help as it sits a little below half the starting size.
