Day 2 Coverage Of Event #83: $1,500 Short Deck Begins at Noon
With Day 1 of Event #83: $1,500 Short Deck at the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas 2023 World Series of Poker drawn to its conclusion last night, nine of the 363 entrants will be returning for the start of Day 2 play today.
Although originally scheduled to be a three-day event, with the crowning of a winner seemingly imminent, the tournament is likely to be shortened to just two days as we play down to a champion. Two more bust out is required to have the official WSOP final table set, with each finalist guaranteed $15,629, but each will have their eyes set on the first prize of $111,170.
Coming into the day with the chip lead is David Prociak, who bagged 2,040,000 chips for the Day 2 restart and is currently the only player in the field with over two million chips. Prociak is out in front by 400,000 more than his nearest competitor Robert James, who managed to accumulate 1,622,000 by the end of yesterday’s proceedings.

Of the remaining nine players, both Prociak and Ryan Laplante are no strangers to bracelet glory, having each won one in the same year by taking down the 2016 $1,500 Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo 8 or Better and the $565 Pot-Limit Omaha tournaments, respectively. For the remaining seven other competitors, today could yield a career-first bracelet for all of them.
Day 2 commences at 12 p.m. PDT in the Horseshoe Gold section. The plan is to play through ten 60-minute levels with a 15-minute break every two levels. There is also a dinner break of one hour scheduled at the end of Level 21 (approximately 6:30 p.m.). Although this tournament sped through a lot faster than anyone expected, it is unknown whether these plans will be set in stone as we play down to a winner.

Ryan Laplante raised under the gun to 45,000, Marcos Exterkotter in the hijack called and Thai Ha moved all in from the button for approximately 1,050,000. Both opponents were forced to fold.
The play has begun to slow down since yesterday and a hand has yet to reach a showdown since play started.

Prociak Extends his Lead

With about 40,000 in the middle, players four-handed and the board reading J♣Q♦K♦, action was checked through to the turn by Robert James from early position, David Prociak from middle position, Moses Alosh from the cutoff and Matan Gabay on the button.
The turn was the 10♦ and all four players checked to see the K♠ river. James checked, Prociak bet 9,000, Alosh folded and Gabay made the call. James then put in a check-raise to 70,000. After about one minute of consideration, Prociak made the call and Gabay folded shortly afterwords.
James tabled Q♥10♥ for two pair while Prociak held A♠8♠ for a broadway straight to take down the pot and widen the gap between himself and James.

Prociak Puts the Pressure on Gabay

What started out as a four-way limped pot, David Prociak checked his option on the button.
The flop came K♦K♥J♦ and the action checked to Matan Gabay in middle position who bet out for 20,000. Only Prociak continued.
The turned Q♠ checked through to the Q♦ on the river. Gabay bet out once more, this time for 35,000. Prociak raised to 280,000 sending Gabay into the tank. He eventually folded and Prociak won this pot.

Laplante was ahead with his pocket queens but Adler did find additional outs on the J♣6♦8♦ flop. He failed to improve further on the 7♥ turn and 9♦ river and he became the first Day 2 casualty while Laplante collected a nice pot, bringing him just past 1,000,000 chips.

On a flop of 10♠J♦9♠, the action checked to James who bet out for 20,000. Alosh moved all in for 286,000, Gabay folded and James called.

Alosh just needed to fade the board pairing to ensure a double-up. The turn and river came the 6♥ and 8♠, respectively, allowing Alosh to take down this pot.
