Weiss Leads Final Five; Duek and Shakerchi Chase Gold in $25,000 High Roller Pot-Limit Omaha

Michael Duek
Michael Duek

The high-stakes four-card action is heating up during the 2025 World Series of Poker at the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas and a winner is set to be crowned today on the main feature table inside of the Horseshoe Event Center. After three tournament days, the 489-entry-strong field in Event #51: $25,000 High Roller Pot-Limit Omaha has been whittled down to the final five hopefuls and they will be competing for the biggest piece of the $11,491,500 prize pool.

Leading the way by a significant margin is Germany's Dennis Weiss as his stack of 28,450,000 is nearly two times as much as his nearest follower. Weiss has a bracelet after winning the €5,000 Pot Limit Omaha during the 2024 WSOP Europe at Kings Resort in Rozvadov last year.

Behind him is the only 25K Fantasy Draft player still in contention. Michael Duek bagged up 14,700,000 and is perhaps best known for his third place in the 2022 WSOP Main Event in Las Vegas, but he also had a third-place finish in the $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Championship prior to that during the same summer.

Talal Shakerchi is known to many under his online poker moniker "raidalot" with which he has notched up numerous titles. The British businessman also regularly competes at the highest stakes and already cashed for more than $19 million in live poker tournaments, though, the elusive WSOP gold bracelet has escaped him so far. Shakerchi brings 12,300,000 into the final day, which is narrowly ahead of Evan Krentzman (11,350,000) who has many PLO cashes on his resume totaling more than $700,000.

Last but not least, Jeffrey Hakim brings up the bottom of the leaderboard but has plenty of experience at his disposal. A regular on the European poker circuit, Hakim ended the last year on a high note after he won his first WSOP gold bracelet in The Bahamas in the $2,500 Mini Main Event for $575,050, which is also his largest career score to date.

All finalists have locked up at least $539,817 for their efforts and the top three finishers will all earn a seven-figure payday with the coveted WSOP gold bracelet and $2,292,155 reserved for the eventual champion.

Duek Finds the Best on the River

Level 29 : Blinds 150,000/300,000, 300,000 ante

Evan Krentzman limped in from the small blind with AJ52 and Michael Duek raised the pot to 900,000 from the big blind. Krentzman called and the flop of 1074 hit the felt.

Both players checked and the A rolled off on the turn. Krentzman checked again and Duek slid out a pot-sized bet of 2,100,000. Krentzman called with top pair and the nut flush draw as the 8 landed on the river.

Both players instantly checked the river and Duek flipped over A853 for two pair to claim the pot.

Duek Collects with a Turn Bet

Level 29 : Blinds 150,000/300,000, 300,000 ante

Michael Duek limped in from the cutoff with AJ87 which allowed Dennis Weiss with KQ62 and Talal Shakerchi with AK104 to come along from the blinds.

The flop fell J52 and Weiss led out with a bet of 650,000, holding just a pair deuces. Shakerchi got out of the way but Duek came along with his pair of jacks, the better of the two holdings.

The turn brought the 9 and Weiss checked this time. Duek threw in a bet of 2,000,000 and that was enough to force Weiss out of the pot.

Dennis Weiss opened to 1,050,000 from the cutoff with KJ62 and Michael Duek defended from the big blind with AKJ7. The flop came A102 and Duek check-called a bet of 1,150,000 from Weiss.

The 10 paired the board on the turn and Duek checked again. Weiss put together another bet of 2,050,000 with his combo draw but Duek still called. The 3 completed the board and Duek checked for the third time. Weiss checked it back after bricking out and Duek closed the gap between himself and the chip leader.

Three in a Row for Weiss; Duek Takes All the Profit

Level 29 : Blinds 150,000/300,000, 300,000 ante

Talal Shakerchi limped in with the A883 from under the gun and Dennis Weiss in the big blind checked the 101052 to see the monotone A95 flop, which both players checked. On the 2 turn, they both checked again and saw the Q river for free. No more betting took place and Weiss won the pot with two pair, fives and deuces.

Weiss then potted with the AA85 and claimed the big blind and ante of Shakerchi.

The next pot-sized raise by the German came on the button with AK32 and he got through with it again.

Weiss then potted the 101064 and Michael Duek defended the big blind holding KKQ7. On the AKJ flop, Duek hit middle set and check-called a bet of 1,150,000 by Weiss to then boat up on the A turn. He checked and Weiss checked behind, and did so again on the 3 river to concede all of his previous winnings.

Michael Duek opened to 1,400,000 from the cutoff with 10866 and Evan Krentzman defended from the big blind with AQ109. The flop came A62 and Krentzman check-called a bet of 1,000,000 from Duek.

The turn was the 9 and Krentzman checked again. Duek sized up a bet of 2,700,000 this time and Krentzman still called after improving to two pair.

The 7 peeled off on the river which improved Duek from a set of sixes to the nut straight. Krentzman checked and Duek asked for it all, shoving all in. Krentzman went into the tank, having a decision for his remaining 7,400,000 chips. After three time banks, Krentzman made the call and Duek showed him the bad news.

On the JJ10 flop, Duek continued for 700,000 and Hakim raised it up to 1,700,000 with two times as many chips behind. Duek opted to flat call and the A followed on the turn. Both players checked to the 7 on the river and Duek then bet the pot, Hakim instantly called all-in.

Michael Duek: KJ108

Duek had flopped the full house only for Hakim to turn the superior full house. Both slow-played their premium hands and Hakim earned the full double.

Weiss Goes Runner Runner for the Nuts

Level 30 : Blinds 200,000/400,000, 400,000 ante
Dennis Weiss
Dennis Weiss

Dennis Weiss limped the button with the JJ54 and Michael Duek called out of the small blind holding the 101064, Jeffrey Hakim in the big blind checked his option with the KQ85.

The K83 flop was checked to Weiss, who bet 750,000. That got rid of Duek but Hakim called with his top two pair.

That led to the A turn on which Hakim checked again, Weiss bet 2,100,000 and Hakim called.

The Q river gave Weiss the nut flush and Hakim checked the third street in a row. Weiss now carefully considered his next option before he eventually declared "pot" for a bet of 7,300,000.

Hakim conceded two time banks but no further chips to avoid a major setback, sending his cards into the muck.
