Thrush Comes Up Short Against Renke’s Kicker

Nathan Thrush raised to 200,000 from under the gun, with calls from Kajetan Renke on the button and Maki Fuchigami in the big blind.

The J♠2♥6♠ flop checked to Renke, who fired 250,000. Fuchigami folded, and Thrush reraised to 650,000. Renke responded with an all-in shove for roughly 1,300,000, putting himself at risk. Thrush called and found out he was drawing thin.

The turn 4♠ and river Q♦ brought no help for Thrush, and Renke dragged a nice-sized pot to kick off the day.

Thanh Ha Duong opened to 200,000 under the gun and got called by Aditya Sushant in cutoff to see a flop.

The flop dropped 3♠2♠4♠. Duong continued with 325,000 and Sushant called again. The turn K♦ got checks from both players.

Duong checked the 9♥ river and Sushant took control and fired 400,000 into the pot. After a short stare-down, Duong folded his hand.

The flop 8♥A♣J♠ immediately placed Brooks in jeopardy when it gave Duong top two pair. The K♠ gave Brooks the lower two pair but it would take a miracle if he was to stay on in the tournament.

That miracle didn't happen when the 2♥ came on the river. Brooks' tournament life ended instantly, and he left the floor as Duong scooped the pot.
