On a board of {8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{5-Clubs} Matt Rolfe tossed out a bet totalling 2,200 and was called shortly after by his opponent.

"Did I win?" joked Rolfe, before tabling {q-Clubs}{j-Spades} for trip eights with a queen-kicker.

His opponent smiled before revealing his {a-Diamonds}{4-Spades} for a full house and took down the early pot.

Not a Hot Start for Hargrave

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante
Johnathan Hargrave
Johnathan Hargrave

A player in middle position opened with a raise to 300 and Johnathan Hargrave called on the button. The big blind called as well and it was three-way to a flop.

The flop was {Q-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{6-Hearts} and the big blind checked. The player in middle position made it 525. Hargrave called while the big blind folded.

Both players checked on the {10-Hearts} turn and the {10-Clubs} came on the river. There, the middle position player bet again, making it 1,025. Hargrave didn't waste too long to call. The middle position player showed down {K-Spades}{K-Clubs} though for kings and tens and that would earn him the pot as Hargrave tapped the table and mucked.

It's not a great start for Hargrave, who finished 5th in the $500 Opening Event here at The Star Sydney for $29,487, but he's still got plenty of chips to work with here on Day 1D.

Wu Snaps Off Lowrie's Bluff

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Zac Lowrie was in the cutoff and he opened with a raise to 250. Action folded to the small blind where Eric Wu three-bet, making it 1,050. The big blind folded but Lowrie called to see a flop.

The flop was {6-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{2-Spades} and Wu checked. Lowrie put out a bet of 1,200 and Wu called.

Both players checked when the {6-Clubs} came and the {8-Clubs} dropped on the river. There, Wu checked for a third time. Lowrie put out a bet of 2,800. Wu tanked for a bit, but eventually decided to call. Lowrie turned up his {Q-Spades}{10-Spades} for just queen-high and Wu had snapped of the bluff holding {A-Hearts}{K-Diamonds} for ace-high, and that would earn him the pot.
