Awerbuch Gets Lucky, then Gets Unlucky

Level 10 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Chad Awerbuch
Chad Awerbuch

Chad Awerbuch opened with a raise to 3,500 from middle position and action folded around to the button who three-bet, making it 9,500. Action folded back around to Awerbuch who thought for about 30 seconds, then moved all in for nearly 70,000. His opponent snap-called.

Chad Awerbuch: {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts}
Opponent: {K-Spades}{K-Diamonds}

The flop was decent for Awerbuch when it came {J-Spades}{10-Spades}{6-Hearts} not giving him what he needed immediately, but giving him gutshot and backdoor flush outs to go with his ace. The turn was the {A-Diamonds} though and that would vault him into the lead. The river was the {Q-Diamonds} though, giving both players a straight, so they would chop the pot.

"I think that's fair," someone on the rail said after the hand.

Awerbuch took his half of the pot and now sit with around 70,000 chips.

Spano Binks a Queen to Stay Alive in the Main Event

Level 10 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Robert Spano was all in before the flop for roughly 30,000 before another player moved all in over the top. One player in the blinds tanked a bit before folding, so Spano was heads-up and at risk.

Robert Spano: {A-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}
Opponent: {A-Clubs}{K-Spades}

The flop came down {Q-Spades}{4-Clubs}{3-Hearts} and Spano quickly took the lead. He didn't relinquish that lead on the {9-Hearts} turn or the {2-Spades} river and with that he doubled to over 60,000 chips.

"Thank you!" Spano said standing up and clapping. "You had ace-king? I wish you called."

Spano was speaking to the player in the blinds who claimed that he folded ace-king preflop.

Hopkins Takes a Hit But Still Healthy

Level 11 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

James Hopkins opened with a raise from the cutoff and the player on the button moved all in for 17,800. Action folded back to Hopkins who called.

James Hopkins: {8-Hearts}{6-Hearts}
Opponent: {A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}

The board ran out {A-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{5-Spades} and thought Hopkins made a pair of sixes on the turn, it wasn't enough to do his opponent's flopped pair of aces, so the player doubled up.

Despite losing the pot, Hopkins still sits with a well above average stack of nearly 200,000 chips.
