Diarmuid O'Kane leads the pack going into Day 2
Diarmuid O'Kane leads the pack going into Day 2

The 182 players remaining in the 2019 WSOP International Circuit Sydney Main Event will take to their seats today as they continue their quest at capturing the title as well as the coveted WSOP gold ring on offer, as well as earning themselves a ticket to the 2020 WSOP Circuit Global Championship, an invitation-only tournament with a minimum prize pool of $1,000,000 USD.

After four opening flights, the players will join together at 12:30pm local time, with Day 1a chip leader Diarmuid O’Kane returning with 968,500 with blinds at 2,500/5,000/5000. Alongside him will be Day 1d chip leader Andrew Zhang (680,500), Day 1c chip leader Ross Grammer (563,000), Jo Snell (505,500) and Day 1b chip leader Marc Seymour (502,000) rounding out the top five stacks and the only players above 500,000.

Also returning will be defending WSOP Sydney Main Event final table finishers; Sam Capra (265,000), Matt Pongrass (183,500), Rahul Rastogi (170,000) Barry Forrester (153,000) and Cameron Chen (20,000) who will hope to capture their first circuit ring after narrowly missing out only 12 months prior.

The prize pool has also been announced early this morning. 117 players will guarantee themselves a minimum payday of $3,687 with the top five earning themselves a six-figure score. The eventual champion will pocket a cool $410,264 for their efforts.

Today’s plan is to play ten 60-minute levels or stop at the final three tables, whichever comes first.

Connie Graham
Connie Graham

Connie Graham moved all in for her remaining 18,500 from under the gun and was called by Sam Ioannou on the button.

Graham showed {7-Clubs}{7-Spades} and was in the lead against Ioannou who had {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds}.

The flop fell {10-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}{5-Clubs} giving Ioannou the advantage with a higher pair.

The {10-Hearts} on the turn didn't help Graham who was left needing a seven on the river.

The dealer then produced the {7-Hearts}, much to the delight of Graham, who raked in the double to stay alive.

Jun Zheng (standing up) busts to Michael Hahn (seat 1)

The bubble has burst in a rather anti-climactic fashion. It was the short-stacked Jun Zheng the man all-in for his tournament life from middle position with {10-Spades}{9-Spades} for his last 18,000 with Michael Hahn looking him up from two seats over with {7-Clubs}{4-Clubs}.

While he had slightly the best of it, Zheng's final runout would come {8-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{a-Clubs}{6-Spades}, with Hahn making the straight on the river to bring the 117 remaining players into the money and all are now guaranteed a payday of at least AU$3,687 (~$2,520).
