Chiu Busts O'Kane

Level 24 : 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante
Diarmuid O’Kane
Diarmuid O’Kane

Edwin Chiu is currently sitting in the hot seat; after Dean Blatt opened the action from the button Chiu responded with a three-bet to 240,000 from the small blind. After asking Chiu how much he was playing, Blatt made the call and the two went heads-up to a flop of {5-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{a-Spades}.

Chiu checked it over to Blatt, who took a stab for 130,000. While he didn't look thrilled about it, Chiu slid in the call to keep the pair in action to the {9-Hearts} turn, which was checked by both, as was the {10-Clubs} river and Chiu took the pot with {k-Clubs}{k-Spades}, which explained why he looked less than thrilled with the ace on the flop.

The very next hand, it was Chiu the man driving the action with a button raise to 85,000 and a short-stacked Diarmuid O'Kane responded with a shove for the last of his chips. Chiu called immediately and the two tabled their cards.

Diarmuid O'Kane: {a-Clubs}{8-Spades}
Edwin Chiu: {q-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}

The board ran out {9-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{7-Spades}{9-Clubs} and O'Kane shook everyone's hand and said his goodbyes to the table, while Chiu stacked up to 4.3 million.

Vu and Zwaine Have a Chat

Level 24 : 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante

Dean Blatt raised to 80,000 from middle position. Duy Doc Vu re-raised to 300,000 from the hijack. John Zwaine snap-called from the small blind. Blatt thought for a minute before opting to fold.

The flop came {3-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{4-Spades} and Zwaine checked. Vu bet 400,000 moments later. Zwaine went into the tank.

"You have a straight draw?" asked Vu.

"Do you?" replied Zwaine.

"I have a made hand," responded Vu.

"I don't have a draw either," continued Zwaine.

"That makes it interesting. Guess you have to go all in," prompted Vu.

"You all in?" asked Zwaine, forgeting Vu had already bet.

Not long passed before Zwaine released his hand relinquishing the pot to Vu.

Rafferty Flushes Kumar

Tom Rafferty
Tom Rafferty

All the chips went in on a flop of {8-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} with Tom Rafferty (big blind) check-raising Anish Kumar's 70,000 continuation bet after calling a bet of 90,000 pre-flop. Kumar called and the two flipped over their cards with Rafferty the player at risk.

Tom Rafferty: {q-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}
Anish Kumar: {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs}

Kumar had the lead with a pair of nines, with Rafferty holding a flush draw and an overcard, but losing some of his outs when Kumar binked a set on the {9-Hearts} turn. However, the poker gods are fickle and Rafferty got there on the {k-Diamonds} river to earn a timely double, effectively swapping places with Kumar in the pecking order after the hand.

Duan Picks Off Chiu

Level 25 : 25,000/50,000, 50,000 ante
Chao Duan
Chao Duan

With over 1.45 million in chips in the pot already on a board reading {j-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{7-Clubs} in a battle of the blinds between Edwin Chiu and Chao Duan, Chiu exerted maximum pressure by moving all-in on the river.

Duan called immediately and from the look on Chiu's face he had just been caught with his hand in the cookie jar.

Chiu tried to muck, but tablemate Dean Blatt pointed out that in an all-in and a call scenario both players have to showdown. Chiu revealed {a-Hearts}{10-Spades} and Duan rolled over {q-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} for the straight to scoop the massive pot.
