Bouncin Round the Room

From the Empire Casino...

I took a walk around the tournament area and Day 1b seems much more subdued when compared to Day 1a. Daniel Negreanu is entertaining his table by telling them luggage bad beat stories. The Devilfish is being vintage Devilfish and wooing the adorable mid-drift exposing massage therapists.

Here are some random chipcounts:

ZeeJustin - 41,000
Adam Junglen - 22,000

Mizzi Or Not Mizzi?

Are we related?
Are we related?
From the Empire...

There's a young player here going under the name of J S Laso who I am convinced is related to online whizkid Sorel Mizzi. They look the same, act the same, talk the same and even share the Mizzi mole on the side of the mouth.

Unfortunately, they don't share a surname, so my investigation has taken an early hit, but surely they could be cousins?

If any knows the answer to my query, then please feel to give me a ring, especially if you're female and single. Actually, scratch that, you don't have to be single.

Why the Long Face?

turn that frown upside down
turn that frown upside down
Daniel Negreanu has started this inaugural WSOPE Main Event strongly, his stack nearing the 30k mark with 29,900 in chips.

Although he's running well, he doesn't seem to be his usual chirpy self, his gloomy chin resting on his open palm like Charlie Bucket having his golden ticket snatched away.

Come on Danny boy, cheer up son. :-)

Fashion Report: The Fifty

THE FIFTY-- Whereas in Las Vegas or Atlantic City, one could show up at a poker table wearing gym shorts and flip-flops, the London casinos have a strict dress code in place. More than one of the Fifty's floor-people have been visibly horrified at some of the choices in dress made by the players (hooded sweatshirts seem to be particularly offensive), though to my knowledge none have been thrown out or asked to change clothes.

In addition to the ban on "hoodies" the London casinos ask that players do not wear torn jeans or white trainers (that's British for sneakers). Patrik Antonius, however, is breaking both the denim and footwear rules today, but I suppose he's so pretty that he's been exempted.

Our lone woman at the Fifty today, Vanessa Rousso, is wearing a pair of boots that Brits would call "wicked cool" and has a very expensive black purse (I'm thinking Prada) tucked underneath her chair. Perched atop her head is the tan newsboy cap she so often wears to tournaments. The same goes for Johnny Chan and his Gucci baseball cap, though the front of it has been marred with a slice of black tape covering an apparently too-large logo.

My fashion victim of the day, though, has to be Andy Black, wearing a ridiculous straw cowboy hat. This choice of cowboy headwear is even worse than that other Andy B.'s snakeskin number that made daily appearances at this summer's WSOP in Las Vegas (Bloch, in case you're wondering).

And for the second day in a row, the room remains Croc-free. Thank God for small miracles.

Flanders Fed Up but Doubled Up

Tim Flan-diddly-anders
Tim Flan-diddly-anders
From the Sportsman --

Tim Flanders, frequently appearing around this island's tournament circuit (his wife Pippa playing a pretty mean game too) hasn't had a great first level. Now sitting on just 6,600, he raised all-in over the top of Dan Shak's preflop raise to 600 (the blinds now 100/200).

"Why so much?" queried Shak.
"I am fed up with losing on the flop."
Shak mulled it over, thinking out loud, "At best it's a race," and called, showing Nines to Flanders' Jacks. A third Jack on the flop, "helped," said a happier Flanders.

It's Okay for KK

I am a Greek God!
I am a Greek God!
From the Empire...

Monte Carlo EPT finalist Kristian Kjondal (nominated by a fellow blogger as the best looking player in poker) is doing okay with 15,275, although he was fairing a whole lot worse just moments ago, Erik Joergensen calling a 3k river bet on a {J-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}{4-Spades} board with {K-Clubs}{J-Spades} vs. {A-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} to give the Norwegian a much needed boost.

MrSmokey1 Up to 33K

From the Empire Casino...

Steve "MrSmokey1" Billirakis is up to 33,000. He is the youngest player to ever win a WSOP bracelet, something he accomplished this year. He's hoping that some of the under-21 crowd here in the main event does not win the main event so his remarkable record stays intact.

The WSOPE age requirement is 18 years of age, unlike the WSOP 21 year old minimum.

Captain Kirk

Bah, humbug!
Bah, humbug!
From the Empire...

An eyebrow raising hand just occurred between Jon Shoreman and Kirk Morrison. I joined the action on the {6-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} flop, Kirk was underthegun, so I assume he either limped or raised it up and was called by Shoreman in the small blind.

Anyhow, it appears as though Jon check-raised the Kiwi Kid's flop bet of 800 to 3k, Kirk dwelling up before making what appeared to be a hesitant call.

Jon them made a curious 1.6k bet on the {K-Clubs} turn, which was once again flat-called by Kirk follwing a brief pause.

The river came a {9-Clubs}, and instead of betting out, Jon decided to check before rapidly calling Kirk's 2.3k bet.

Kirk turned over {4-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} for a cutely played set whilst Jon shook his head and mucked.

Torben Knudsen Busted

From the Sportsman --

Knudsen (who ran {4-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} into {A-Spades}{A-Diamonds} all in preflop) had been playing "75% of hands," according to tablemate Neil Channing. Or maybe that was, "75% of hands with John Tabatabai, who himself was playing 90%." Tabatabai, also known by his no less unweildy moniker Kunkuwap is a young online player who's also been playing the higher buy-in European events this year, no stranger to large swings in money and no fear, apparently.

"Have you been playing every hand?" I asked him.
"Yes," he happily admitted. He'd tangled with Knudsen before, winning a pretty chunky pot with Eights full (over 10k) and yoyoing his stack, something that doesn't look likely to stop.
