Bubble Remains Intact

With Ian Frazer, Howard Lederer and co. peering on, hands clasped as the bubble shadows the arena, a big pot threatened to emerge on Table 3 as Eric Cajelias' button raise to 5,400 was bumped up to 18,000 by Hoyt Corkins.

Limper Bjorin folded, but Cajelias made a quick call, thus taking us to a {Q-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{7-Clubs} flop. But whilst a pin hovering over the bubble, it failed to infiltrate its surface, Cajelias simply check-folding to a bet of 40,000 and leaving the bubble in tact.

Corkins showed {A-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}{5-Spades}{5-Diamonds}.

Still Hand for Hand

It's not so much that no-one wants to go out on the bubble, it's more that no-one seems to want a mistake that may cost them their ticket to the serious money later on.

For instance, just now short-stacked Karelas Konstantinos raised in early position and it folded right around to Ian Frazer in the big blind. Frazer dropped a chip on his cards, most exciting, and disappeared into the tank for a while. We had high hopes of action -- but eventually he folded, and we remain bubbling.

Gavatin's Day Gets a Little Better

Mats Gavatin's day has just taken a turn for the better after a recent double up through Allie Prescott -- the result of a set over set situation.

Prescott opened the pot with a raise to 4,000 from early position and Gavatin made the call from the small blind.

The flop came {8-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{3-Hearts} and Gavatin checked to Prescott, who fired a 6,500 continuation bet. Gavatin then countered with a raise to 18,000, and Prescott responded by raising the pot.

"Did you re-pot it?" Gavatin asked.

Prescott nodded.

"I'm all in," Gavatin said.

Prescott made the call:

Prescott: {3-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}
Gavatin: {8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}

The rest of the board filled out {4-Hearts}, {6-Spades} and Gavatin's set of eights held up to win the pot.

"I had nine-seven," said Howard Lederer after the dust settled.

Gavatin improved to 135,000 in chips after the hand while Prescott dropped to 55,000.

Karelas Sings His Swan Song on the Bubble

Newly chipped up Mats Gavatin raised from the cutoff, and Karelas Konstantinos immediately shoved from the button. The blinds passed, and back to Gavatin, who, still stacking his chips from his double up, thought about it briefly before telling the dealer, "Er, yeah, ok, all in."

Konstantinos: {5-Spades} {5-Hearts}
Gavatin: {J-Hearts} {9-Clubs}

Board: {3-Diamonds} {4-Spades} {10-Hearts} {K-Spades} {J-Clubs}

A handshake later, and we are in the money, redrawing for out final two tables.

No Slowing Down

He may be in different company, but there's no slowing down for Robin Ketson - he raised the first two-tabled hand to 5,600. But in the big blind lay Mats Gavatin and his recently acquired stack. He had no intentions of folding.

Both players checked the {A-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}{3-Spades} flop, but Gavatin led for 7,500 on the {6-Clubs} turn. Keston released his hand, revealing {8-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} in the process.

20-minute Break

The tournament clock has been paused while the remaining 18 players -- all of them now in the money -- go on their first 20-minute break of the day.
