Event 2 - £2,500 Pot Limit Hold'em/Omaha

Day 2 Completed

Day 2 is Over; Final Table Not Quite Over

After no-one could quite decide whether to play this out tonight or play the final table tomorrow as scheduled, the players and tournament staff came to a compromise, and we will be quitting for the night now and coming back tomorrow at 2pm for our final five to battle it out.

A short discussion/argument in which everyone wanted to start at 2pm except Men Nguyen who for some reason wanted to start at 1pm instead was won by the majority, and it seems that our remaining final tablists will all be trying their hand at multi-tabling tomorrow -- there has been discussion also of turning up at noon to play two hours of the PLO event before coming back to finish their PLO/PLH final table.

So far at this final table we have lost Howard Lederer, Ian Frazer, Hoyt Corkins and Chris Bjorin, in that order. Mats Gavatin, who amassed an enormous stack after knocking out Allie Prescott, Michel Abecassis and Nikolay Evdakov within about a minute to shrink the field to nine, remains chip leader, but Richard Gryko and Men Nguyen are hot on his tail.

The final half of our final table looks like so:

Seat 1: Men Nguyen -- 268,000
Seat 2: Mats Gavatin -- 448,000
Seat 3: Robin Keston -- 63,000
Seat 4: Richard Gryko -- 329,000
Seat 5: Erik Cajelais -- 81,000

We'll be back at final table from, as has now been definitely and finally decided, 2pm GMT+1. Join us then to see which of our deserving five goes home with a WSOPE bracelet.

Scoreboard Update

Here's another round of chip counts for your viewing pleasure, following the elimination of 6th place finisher Chris Bjorin:

Mats Gavatin - 414,000
Richard Gryko - 329,000
Men Nguyen - 320,000
Robin Keston - 82,000
Erik Cajelais - 81,000

Chris Bjorin Eliminated in 6th Place (£20,106)

A most unusual thing occurred, in that we saw five players to the flop in a raised pot -- everyone but Robin Keston came along for the ride.

It was inevitable that there was going to be some action, and it was Chris Bjorin in the big blind who was the aggressor, betting out pot (52,000) on the {K-Clubs} {9-Diamonds} {2-Clubs} flop. It folded to Richard Gryko who looked Bjorin in the eye and gently announced raise. Everyone ducked out of the way, Bjorin called all in for his last 15,000 chips, and they were on their backs.

Gryko: {Q-Diamonds} {Q-Hearts} {K-Diamonds} {2-Hearts} for two pair, kings and deuces
Bjorin: {J-Clubs} {10-Clubs} {9-Spades} {7-Diamonds} for a bunch of draws, most notably the flush and gutshot

Turn: {6-Diamonds}

River: {K-Spades}

Gryko made a full house, and with handshakes all round, two-time bracelet winner Bjorin will not be winning his third bit of bling today/tomorrow.

Nguyen v. Cajelais

(Omaha)

Mats Gavatin opened the pot with a raise to 13,000 and was called by Erik Cajelais (small blind) and Men Nguyen (big blind).

All three players checked the {4-Spades}{4-Hearts}{J-Hearts} flop, sending the action to the turn: {Q-Spades}

Cajelais led out with a 25,000 bet that was quickly called by Nguyen; Gavatin folded.

5th Street delivered the {8-Clubs} and Cajelais matched his turn bet, firing 25,000 on the end. Nguyen made the call and Cajelais showed {Q-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}(X?)(X?) for top two pair. Nguyen tabled {7-Spades}{7-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} for trip fours which were good enough to take down the pot.

Is It Over?

Incidentally, we are still playing the guessing game as to whether we will be finishing at the end of this level in 15 minutes (bloggers' favourite option, barring winding back time and finishing when they made final table) or whether we will playing down to a bracelet-winning conclusion (seemed to be the favourite option of most of the players still left in when it was last discussed several hours ago).

Judging by the sleepy expressions all round, the fact that we still have six runners, and the excellent progress that Men Nguyen has been doing with a succession of Coronas, our money's on finishing in 15. We're just going to have to wait and see, though...

Chip Counts

Action has slowed down a wee bit, so please enjoy these current chip counts until something noteworthy happens.

Men Nguyen: 230,000
Chris Bjorin: 75,000
Mats Gavatin: 405,000
Robin Keston: 85,000
Richard Gryko: 220,000
Erik Cajelais: 175,000

Tough Decision for Nguyen

(Hold'em)

Erik Cajelais raised to 16,000 under the gun and the action moved over to Men Nguyen who reraised the pot. It folded back to Cajelais -- who now four-bet all in, another 76,500.

Nguyen now tanked, repeatedly asking TD Jack Effel how much the all in was for and repeatedly receiving the same answer. "I need time," he apologized. "Tough situation."

He continued to dwell for some minutes, stacking an restacking his chips, before at last Mats Gavatin turned to Jack Effel and politely asked, "Can I call the clock?" He could, and he did.

The clock was down to around 30 seconds when Nguyen folded.

Hoyt Corkins Eliminated in 7th Place (£15,302)

Hoyt 'The Alabama Cowboy' Corkins has just been eliminated from the tournament in 6th place by Richard Gryko. Here's how the hand went down:

(Hold'em)

Gryko opened with a raise to 13,500 from early position and action folded around the table to Corkins in the big blind who made the call, leaving himself just 4,500 behind.

The flop came {A-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} and Corkins painfully checked to Gryko who tossed a handful of red (500) chips into the middle -- a bet worth 4,000. Corkins then threw the rest of his chips in, raising Gryko a single red chip, and Gryko made the call, tabling {K-Clubs}{J-Clubs}; Corkins' {J-Hearts}{6-Hearts} was dominated.

The {J-Spades} fell on the turn giving Corkins a few outs for a chopped pot, but the {10-Diamonds} came on the river, cementing the pot for Gryko.
