Outfit of the Day

The WSOPE Main Event is a big deal, and while, poker players being poker players, there are still an awful lot of hoodies and sneakers in the field, one man at least has dressed for the occasion.

Mr. Mark Teltscher, not usually known for his sartorial flair, has today outdone the rest of the field and turned up in a very lovely white linen suit with a pillarbox-red satin shirt. Mr. Teltscher and your fashion choices: PokerNews salutes you.

Keston Takes a Hit

A good early start has evaporated into a slightly below average stack for Robin Keston.

He was faced with an {A-Diamonds} {J-Clubs} {4-Diamonds} flop and a young gentleman of indeterminate northern European origin betting out 1,650. Keston promptly made it another 3,850 to go -- but was left with a decision when the young gentleman announced all in with a flourish. Eventually Keston passed, raising an eyebrow in that 'what can you do?' sort of way, and he's down to 26,000.

Seed Struggling

With the cameras swamping the table and a {5-Clubs}{9-Spades}{K-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{6-Clubs} board waiting patiently on the felt, Huck Seed dipped into his already depleted stack and bet out 5,000 from the button, leaving himself just 2,750 behind.

But to his horror, his opponent, a young online qualifier, swiftly moved all in. As the gleam of the camera shone brighter, you could almost sense the dread in Seed as he fanned his remaining chips, the mere thought that he might have to call all-in with the worst hand after betting three quarters of his stack and then have it broadcast on national - global even - television, surely a factor in his decision.

But either way, and after a moment of two of frustrated deliberation, Seed flicked his cards into the muck, and the cameras released a mechanical exhale and backed away from the table.

Not Pham-tastic

David Pham raised to 575 preflop and received two callers, one of whom was Alex Kravchenko in the big blind. On the {J-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} flop, Pham check-called a bet of 1,125 (the Russian fled), before check-folding to a bet of 5,000 on the {K-Spades} turn.

Pham down to 14,000.

Ivey versus Brunson

Whilst receiving a vigorous massage, Phil Ivey raised to 500 preflop and received two callers, including Todd Brunson on the button. On the {3-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{A-Clubs} flop, Ivey bet 2,000, and Brunson called. Both players checked the {10-Hearts} turn, only for Ivey to fire out 2,500 on the {7-Spades} river. Brunson made it 11,000 - his foot jiggling frantically beneath him - and Ivey folded.

Ivey currently struggling with 16,625.

Railers Of The Day

There are a lot of people railing here, many of them tourists asking annoying questions of the media like whether this is the final table, but there are a few railers who deserve a mention.

Mr. David Docherty, a young Scottish player who already cashed in event #1 and is now hoping to go similarly deep in the main event, has turned up today with a variety of enthusiastic supporters including a few poker buddies, and his mum. They are calling themselves Poker Friends United, and most admirably seem to be settling themselves down for what they hope to be five days of railing, interrupted only by Day 1b tomorrow. Docherty hasn't moved much from his starting stack, and is at a fearsome table also involving Matt Lagarde, Sandra Naujoks, Cristiano Blanco and Dario Minieri, so it could be a long and tense day for them. Nevertheless we like to see that kind of camaraderie in the poker world. Good on them.

Hellmuth Sheds Costume, Chips

On the main feature table, Phil Hellmuth has changed from his awesome Roman centurion's outfit into a rather less impressive jacket and baseball cap, and it hasn't done his stack any good. It's quite hard to see the action unfolding on that particular table, but Hellmuth has somehow lost more than half his starting stack and is now perched on 13,375. The big winner at the table seems to be Bruno Fitoussi, on 46,475.
