An Orbit with Phil "Unabomber" Laak

Level 5 : 300/300, 500 ante

To say Phil "Unabomber" Laak is unique would be an understatement. Laak, who has been the longtime partner of actress Jennifer Tilly, made a name for himself on the World Poker Tour (WPT) during the height of the "Poker Boom." While Laak spends much of his time grinding cash, he couldn't resist the allure of the Wynn Millions and is in action today.

We decided to spend an entire orbit observing Laak, who started with 33,000 in chips.

Hand #1 (Cutoff): Action folded to Laak and he raised to 2,000, which was good enough to swipe the blinds and antes.

Hand #2 (Hijack): Laak limped, the players on the button and in the small blind did the same, and the big blind checked his option to bring about a flop of {k-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{7-Hearts}. Three checks saw the player on the button bet 1,000 and Laak called. Action then went check-check on the {k-Diamonds} turn.

When the {2-Diamonds} completed the board on the river, Laak bet 3,100 and his opponent called. Laak tabled the {k-Hearts}{8-Hearts} for trip kings and it was good as his opponent mucked.

Hand #3 (Lojack): A player in early position raised and Laak folded.

Hand #4 (UTG+1): The UTG player folded and so did Laak.

Hand #5 (UTG): Laak limped and the player in the cutoff raised to 2,000. Laak called and it was heads-up to the {4-Spades}{2-Clubs}{8-Clubs} flop, which both players checked. Laak then check-called a bet of 3,000 on the {6-Diamonds} turn before both players returned to checking on the {7-Hearts} river. The cutoff tabled the {9-Diamonds}{9-Spades} and it was good as Laak mucked.

Hand #6 (Big Blind): A player raised to 1,300 from early position and got a caller. The next player then three-bet to 5,300, which prompted Laak to fold when action reached him.

Hand #7 (Small Blind): After a raise and a reraise, Laak folded.

Hand #8 (Button): The player in the cutoff moved all in for around 10,000 and Laak folded.

Laak ended the orbit with 34,300, just slightly ahead of where he began.
