What are the Blackjack Card Values?

When you’re wanting to master the classic casino card game which is Blackjack, one of the main elements which you need to understand first is the card values – this is because it runs the whole game.

Throughout the game of blackjack, each card in your hand has it's own values, starting with the numeral cards which have their face values ranging from 2 to 10.

In addition to the numeral cards, Jacks, Queens, and Kings are valued at 10, and Aces which either have a value of 1 or 11 – aces are always valued at 11 unless that would result in the value going over 21, in this case it is valued as 1.

Whilst you’re playing Blackjack, whilst having a starting hand of a 10-valued card and an ace, this is called a Blackjack or natural and beats all the other hands in the midst of your game.

If both the player and dealer have ended with the beats which result in Blackjack, this result is a push – which is also known as a tie and nobody wins, the bet is then returned to the player.

What are the Rules of The Classic Card Game?

As also described under what is blackjack, whilst you’re playing blackjack everyone plays against the dealer also known as the house.

Whilst you’re playing, each player only must beat the dealer’s hand to win. There are two main ways to win the game:

  1. Your hand needs to have a total value that is greater than the dealer and can’t go over 21
  2. You can win by default if the dealer goes bust

Once all the cards have been dealt, starting from the player on the left of the dealer, this game then goes in a circular formation for each player to make their decision regarding their hand.

When you’ve received your first two cards, you have four choices that you’re able to make. Within these four choices, you have ‘Stand’, ‘Hit’, ‘Double’, or ‘Split’.

Options & Cards GOP3

Across your four options you have, starting with the option of being able to Stand. When you stand, this means that you feel you’re comfortable with where you stand and your strategy in regards to being close to 21 – which means that you don’t want any more cards.

Alternatively, you’re able to call to be able to hit, this means that you’re able to be dealt an additional card to see if you’re able to get closer to 21 – ensuring that you don’t surpass 21 and lose the game.

If you decide that you want to split, you need to ensure that you qualify to be able to split your cards. To be able to qualify for splitting, you need to have two cards that are of the same rank.

Whilst in the midst of your splitting, you will receive two cards more, one of each of the cards you’ve already been dealt, pay a side bet, and start playing two independent hands. Through playing two independent hands, the bets and payoffs are independent too.

Being one of the last options you have in the midst of your game – especially when you’re feeling more confident – this is to be able to double down. When you’re doubling down, you will need to place an additional bet, after which you’ll receive one more card to add to your hand.

For the rest of the game, there is a bit of luck in determining which cards you’re able to gain through the dealer. Depending on if you gain better or worse cards, this be a part of the outcome whether you win or not!
