UBOC5: B AUSTIN B Wins Event #17; “Hollywood Dave” Goes Deep in Mini
UltimateBet and Absolute Poker are currently hosting the fifth installment of the Ultimate Bet Online Poker Championship Series. The UBOC5 is a series of 20 tournaments offering a combined $4 million in guaranteed prize money. Only one UBOC tournament was scheduled to take place Friday night, Event #17 $150 + $12 Sniper No-Limit Hold’em 6-Max. The Mini-UBOC, which runs simultaneously with the UBOC and offers the same tournament at one-tenth the price, also served as an excellent option for those with a limited bankroll. The winner of each UBOC tournament not only received a nice payday, but a championship watch. In addition, anyone who eliminated a Team UB pro received $200 and a UBOC T-shirt.
The first and only UBOC event of the evening was Event #17 $150 + $12 Sniper No-Limit Hold’em 6-Max. The tournament, with a $150,000 guaranteed prize pool, drew 550 players, each of whom had a $30 bounty on their head. Thus far, UB pros have not found much success in the UBOC5. Nonetheless, that didn’t stop many of them from trying. “Hollywood Dave” Stann (438th), Gary “DEBO 34” Debernardi (326th), Mark “Poker Ho” Kroon (325th), Phil Hellmuth (241st) and Tiffany Michelle (239th) gave it their best, but failed to make deep runs.
With only three players remaining, B AUSTIN B (556,355 in chips) folded, SGTGES (399,730 in chips) limped from the small blind, and HSNETH (693,915 in chips) checked his option from the big. Both players checked the 7♠K♣8♦ flop and the 5♠ hit the turn. SGTGES checked, HSNETH bet 8,000, and SGTGES called. The river was the 3♥, and SGTGES checked again. HSNETH bet 22,000 only to be check-raised to 100,400. HSNETH didn’t back down and reraised to 674,800. SGTGES called all-in for his remaining 282,530 with 7♥5♥ for two pair but couldn’t beat HSNETH’s 6♥4♦ straight. SGTGES finished in third place, setting up an epic heads-up battle between HSNETH and B AUSTIN B.
The heads-up match battle lasted 86 hands, the last of which came when B AUSTIN B (1,415,019 in chips) raised to 30,000 and HSNETH (234,981 in chips) reraised all-in. B AUSTIN B made the call and the two turned over their cards:

Although HSNETH was behind, there was a strong likelihood the two would chop. That changed, however, when the flop came down 4♦6♠9♣. Suddenly a chop seemed less likely. The turn was the Q♠ and HSNETH needed to catch a three to stay alive. Unfortunately, the river was the 5♦, which made him the second-place finisher. B AUSTIN B collected the last bounty, the UBOC5 Event #17 title, and the $23,500 first-place prize.

UB pros Mark “Poker Ho” Kroon (484th) and Gary “DEBO 34” Debernardi (438th) made early exits, while “Hollywood Dave” Stann navigated the large field to finish in 34th place for $47.76. Heads-up play featured BRONXBUBBA against WUBANGA101 in what turned out to be quite the match. In the final hand, BRONXBUBBA (1,379,404 in chips) raised to 64,000 and WUBANGA101 (1,515,596 in chips) reraised all-in. BRONXBUBBA made the call and the two turned over their cards:

The tournament hinged on a classic race as the flop came down 10♣5♣10♠. When the 2♣ hit the turn, it gave WUBANGA101 a lock on the hand and on the tournament. The irrelevant K♥ was run out on the river as a formality as BRONXBUBBA was eliminated in second place. WUBANGA101 was the last player standing and was awarded $2,335.30 for his efforts.
