Season XII of the World Poker Tour Begins in Cyprus on August 12 0001

On Aug. 12, just six days from now, Season XII of the World Poker Tour kicks off at the five star Merit Crystal Cove Casino and Resort. Sunday marks the beginning of a two-week festival, which features 35 events and boasts $3 million in combined guarantees.

PokerNews will be on hand for the $4,400 Main Event, which begins on Aug. 16. The event has a $1 million guaranteed prize pool and features two starting flights. Players will be allowed to re-enter on the 17th if they bust during Day 1a. PartyPoker Pro Marvin Rettenmaier won the Main Event last year, becoming the first player to ever win back-to-back WPT events. Prior to the start of Season XI, the German took down the Season X $25,000 WPT World Championship at the Bellagio.

“The casino resort is a unique location offering the full holiday packages with intense poker action, round-the-clock cash games and 24/7 all-inclusive treatment including hot buffet in the poker room, cigarettes and cigars, beer wines, spirits and soft drinks,” said Michael Peltekci, President of Merit Casino. “We will be throwing the eagerly awaited WPT players beach party. Last year’s party was the finest in poker history. We know we have high expectations to live up to, and we will not disappoint.”

The party will feature world-renowned DJ Eric Cubeechee, Britain’s Got Talent dance group Girls Rock, a death-defying fire show, and an introductory DJ set from Donny Mizrachi.

Along with the Main Event and the beach festivities, the PartyPoker.com Big Game will debut in Cyprus. Several names have already committed to play in the 12-hour, high-stakes televised cash game, including Sam Trickett, Freddy Deeb, Tony G, Michael Mizrachi, Chino Rheem, and Dominik Nitsche.
