The Sunday Briefing: Paul "paulgees81" Volpe Wins WCOOP HORSE Title; Main Event Underway

The most anticipated day of the year for many online poker pros is the start of the World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) Main Event at PokerStars. In years past, several players have walked away with seven-figure paydays from the event, and we'll witness the same again this year as the 2,142 players created a prize pool of $10,710,000. The eventual winner on Monday night will pocket $1,820,700.

When play ended Sunday night only 271 remaining, meaning only one player exit empty-handed with the top 270 places receiving money. Isreal's "Viking8844" will enter Day 2 as the chip leader with 613,924 in chips. Several notables are still in contention, including Viktor "Isildur1" Blom, recent WPT champ Darren "darrenelias" Elias, Isaac "westmenloAA" Baron, Jake Cody, Andre "aakkari" Akkari and Justin "ZeeJustin" Bonomo.

In other WCOOP news, Paul "paulgees81" Volpe collected his first WCOOP title by winning Event #63: $2,100 HORSE. Elior "Crazy Elior" Sion, Huck “octane190” Seed and Taylor "tRaMp$d0PrAy" Paur also reached the final table of that start-studded tournament.

Meanwhile, "kiiski" took down Event #65: 8-Game Re-Entry High Roller for $231,200 after chopping heads-up with Noah "Exclusive" Boeken.
