Star Poker Sydney Championships Schedule
Star Poker announced the expansion of its Sydney Championships by a week April 6.
“We’re very proud to continue our long-term goal of growing poker at The Star, to offer players from all over the globe a world-class tournament series in Sydney’s only fully integrated gaming resort,” said Chief Operating Officer of Gaming at The Star Damian Quayle.
In its ninth year, the Sydney Championships will kick off July 18 and run 21 days, or through Aug. 7 at The Star Sydney. For the first time, the Star's recently refurbished Star Poker room will be used for the events, a room with 40 tables to seat 400 players.
The series will also launch three new events this year: a $330 buy-in Masters Event (for players 50 years old and up), a $1,100 Monster Stack (players start with $50,000 in chips) and a $20,000 High Roller headliner.
"For the first time we’ll truly cater to poker’s high rollers market with the new $20,000 event while at the same time offering a range of tournaments to suit every budget," Quayle said. "The Sydney Championships has become one of the most popular tournament series for players in the region and we look forward to building on that success."
The 2017 Sydney Championships events will combine for $2 million in guaranteed prize money, up from $1.25 million last year.
The Main Event begins Aug. 4 with a $1 million guarantee. Other notables on the schedule are the $5,000 Challenge ($500,000 prize pool guarantee), the $1,100 Six-Max ($100,000 guarantee) and the $330 Opening Event ($400,000 guarantee).
Satellites into the Championships start June 18.
