Mikael Grönvik Heads Field at Close of Day 1a of MPNPT Sunny Beach
The €150,000 guaranteed MPNPT Sunny Beach €550 Main Event kicked off at the Platinum Casino, located just steps away from the sand and surf of Sunny Beach, Bulgaria. The tournament features two opening flights on July 5-6 followed by two more days of action on July 7-8 until a winner is crowned.
Day 1a attracted 110 entrants away from the myriad entertainments of the Bulgarian seaside resort and into the Platinum Casino. Declan Rice, Johan Palokangas, and Peder-Aage Paulsen were among the players who eschewed the beach in favor of taking their first shot at the Main Event.
The chip leader at the close of play of the first opening flight was Paf qualifier and MPNPT regular Mikael Grönvik with 217,200. A total of 41 players survived Day 1a and will progress onto Day 2 on Saturday, July 7.
The action was also hot away from the tables. Yesterday also featured the legendary MPNPT Players Party at the open-air Alibi Beach Club just steps away from the casino. Players enjoyed cocktails, canapés and club hits in the balmy sea breeze long after play concluded.
The second and final Main Event starting flight begins at 12.30 p.m. EEST. Although those who partied into the early hours at the Players Party will be pleased to know that registration and reentries for the Main Event remain open right up until the start of play on Day 2 tomorrow.
Should the worst happen, today also sees the €220 MPNPT Super Knockout side event at 6 p.m. EEST as well as plenty of cash games at a variety of stakes and games.
