WPT Maryland Live! Postponed Due to COVID-19 Concerns

Maryland Live! Casino has postponed its upcoming World Poker Tour series due to COVID-19 concerns. The series was scheduled to run September 15-28, with the $3,500 buy-in Main Tour event kicking off September 24.

In much of the country, including the Northeast, the pandemic continues to cause illnesses and deaths. For that reason, the casino determined the best course of action was to postpone the event and take a wait and see approach with the coronavirus. No reschedule date has been set, but the card room fully anticipates hosting the major event.

Chris McCall, who works for the poker room, said on Twitter that players who earned their way into the WPT event via a satellite will receive a refund. He also informed players that the normal schedule of tournaments will take place in September at the popular Maryland card room instead of the World Poker Tour series.

Maryland Live! isn't the only casino forced to postpone a WPT event this year. The bestbet Scramble in Jacksonville, a $5,000 buy-in tournament, scheduled for August 27, was also postponed for the same reason.

World Poker Tour Events on the Horizon

Despite two postponements, the WPT still has some big events coming up, starting with the $5,300 WPT World Online Championships Main Event on the global partypoker poker site beginning August 29. On September 19, the partypoker U.S. site will host the $3,500 WPT Borgata Online Poker Open.

The next scheduled live Main Tour event won't take place until November 26, three days after the conclusion of the 2021 World Series of Poker, with the $3,500 WPT Seminole Rock 'N' Roll Poker Open in Hollywood, Florida.

The 2021 WPT schedule wraps up December 15 in Las Vegas with the prestigious $10,400 Five Diamond World Poker Classic. Dates and events for the remainder of Season XIX (2021-2022) haven't yet been set, including the reschedule date for the two postponed events.
