A wild situation arose during a World Series of Poker Circuit (WSOPC) event on Saturday when smoke emitted from a player's iPhone.

Video of the incident surfaced on social media via the ClubWPT Gold Instagram and Facebook pages. The brief video was taken by a player at a separate table during the WSOPC Main Event in Hammond, Indiana, a $1,700 buy-in no-limit hold'em tournament.

Poker Player Explains What Happened

Brek Schutten would go on to win the tournament on Monday for $185,594, beating out 622 entrants, his first ring. He also won a World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet in 2024. But two days before a champion in Indiana was crowned, during a Day 1 flight, smoke arose inside the tournament area.

David Larson, a player who witnessed the smoky incident, explained in a Facebook post what he saw from a nearby table.

"This happened at my table at the WSOP Circuit Main in Hammond IN on Saturday. The player in seat 7 sat on his iphone and it cracked. He set it on the rail and it was emitting a very faint amount of smoke. He placed it on the concrete floor and kept playing. In the middle of the hand, the smoke went from barely visible to spewing fumes of smoke. You can see me in seat 5 wondering what to de because I flopped a full house but the phone erupted in the middle of the hand," Larson wrote.

The ClubWPT Gold Instagram post brought out some goofy responses. The best, perhaps, being one poker fan who wrote: "Definitely his ex calling."

PokerNews cannot confirm nor deny the accuracy of that claim.
