The $109 Mystery Opening Event drew 871 entrants, almost 13% fewer than was needed to hit the $100,000 guarantee. PokerNews said this event could represent good value for 888poker players during our XL Autumn Seriespreview article, and that prediction proved accurate, with a $12,900 overlay enjoyed by those finishing in the money or banking a mystery bounty.
Mystery bounties kicked in after Level 18, and dozens of players eliminated an opponent and got to open a golden envelope. Argentina's "TheFreston" opened an envelope containing the $10,000 jackpot bounty. With other bounties and their regular prize pool payment, "TheFreston" took home $11,392 despite finishing 17th.
A handful of 888poker regulars navigated to the eight-handed final table and concluded Day 1. Tom "sheeeeeeeet" Hall was one of the early eliminations at the final table. Hall finished seventh for $2,012.
Guernsey's "Mayanking," who frequently plays the weekly Mystery Bounty Main Event, finished third for $5,195, leaving "MikeyW94" and "MiriKKadoni," both of the United Kingdom, heads-up.
"MiriKKadoni" fell at the final hurdle and took home $6,398 for their runner-up finish, leaving "MikeyW94" to be crowned this event's champion and to scoop $12,376, giving them plenty of ammunition for the rest of the XL Autumn Series.

"MikeyW94"'s haul is the largest anyone has taken home from any of the 18 completed XL Autumn Series events so far.
In terms of first-place prizes, "Masterbak3r" netted the second-largest haul of the festival, namely $8,985. That was the top prize in the $525 High Roller event, which saw 60 players take to the 888poker virtual felt.
