Aspers Casino Poker Room

Some of the big names in the poker world ride into town today for the £2,200 High Roller which has a £50,000 Guarantee as the 888Live Poker Festival London continues at Aspers Casino, Westfield Stratford.

There will be plenty of 888Poker Ambassadors in attendance including Kara Scott, Dominik Nitsche, Sofia Lövgren and Natalie Hoff.

Also part of the festival at Aspers today is The Lightning 8-Max which has an £80 buy-in starting at 6 p.m and a satellite to the Main Event for just £50 which has three seats guaranteed kicking off at 9 p.m, A full schedule of the 888Live Poker Festival can be found here.

Cards are in the air at 7 p.m. tonight for Day 1 of this two day event and it is sure to be a hotly contested tournament but also a lot of fun as many of the players are familiar with each other from the poker circuit and the table chat is likely to be as entertaining as the poker itself.

The PokerNews Live Reporting team will be on hand to bring you all the action over the next two days so be sure to tune in.

888Live Brings Shot Clock to London Festival

Level 2 : 200/400, 100 ante
Niall Farrel On Clock
Niall Farrel On Clock

For the first time in 888Live tournaments Aspers will see the introduction of the Shot Clock.

Once the dealer has dealt the last card in a hand they operate the timer with a pedal and the 'Shot Clock' begins and each player will be given 30 seconds to act.

If a player is facing a bet or raise, the timer will begin only after their chips are counted and the number of chips required to call are stated. Players will also be allotted a certain number of time extensions, each of which will add an extra thirty seconds to the timer in the event that they need more time to reach a decision.

You can read more about the Shot Clock which will be used in both the High Roller and the Main Event later in the Festival.

Eight Levels Today

Level 2 : 200/400, 100 ante

Play kicked off a little late, as is the High Roller prerogative, and the plan is to play 8 levels today before the survivors bag up chips.

This is an unlimited re-buy event so expect the field to stay fairly big for most of today's play.

There will be regular short breaks but no planned dinner break.
