Ludovic Geilich Leads Final Eight in 888Live Main Event

Level 24 : 15,000/30,000, 5,000 ante
Ludovic Geilich
Ludovic Geilich

Coming into Day 2, the plan was to either play down to eight players or play twelve 60-minute levels. It very nearly came down to the latter. However, with just 11 minutes left in the 24th level of the tournament, Bartosz Szafraniec's pocket fours failed to hold up against Niall Farrell's Ace-King, and the final table was confirmed.

153 players returned at the beginning of the day and they were lead by Michal Mrakes, who had a stranglehold on the chip lead for a long while. He was briefly threatened by the likes of Mieszko Bartz, Gerardo Segui and Frank Stumpf, who all faded just short of the final table. Mrakes himself would ladder all the way to 13th (€5,584) after he was left crippled. Bartz (15th - €4,932), Segui (14th - €4,932) and Stumpf (12th - €5,584) all made the money and were unlucky to miss out on the final table.

Earlier in the day, the bubble was broken midway through Level 17 when Robert Ashelm's Ace-Jack failed to catch up to Miroslav Forman's Ace-King. However, Ashlem didn't walk away empty-handed. He collected a bluetooth speaker for his efforts, but you can't help but feel like he was after something a little bit more than that.

As is custom, after the bubble there followed a flurry of bustouts, the biggest of whom being William Kassouf. The Brit came into the day third in chips overall, but things just didn't seem to go his way, and he eventually shoved ace-three into the pocket sevens of Ludovic Geilich to finish in 23rd place (€3,628). It looked to be Ludovic Geilich's day from the outset. Even as early as the first couple of levels, the Scotsman's monolithic chipstacks towered above the table. He used them to great effect, value-betting and forcing players off of hands.

As the pressure ramped up towards the final table, the pace slowed to a standstill. By the time Andrea Iocco was eliminated in 17th position and the redraw for the final two tables were assured, Geilich was already assured of the chiplead, something he wouldn't relinquish until the end of play.

Geilich will headline the final table along with his fellow Scot Niall Farell (2,230,000) to his direct left, but there will be no shortage of characters. Lukasz Tomecki celebrated getting a flip against Niall Farrell to stay alive in the final level of the night. Alexander Dmitrienko has made has second final table of the festival after his 7th place finish in the opening event. Pavel Berka and Bernd Schonwalder may be short in chips, but they held their nerve to secure their place at the final table along with Juan Carlos Vecino and Catalin Pop.

The final table reconvenes at 2 p.m. local time tomorrow (Monday), with coverage via a livestream on a 30-minute delay.

Bartosz Szafraniec Eliminated in 9th Place (€7,785)

Level 24 : 15,000/30,000, 5,000 ante
Bartosz Szafraniec
Bartosz Szafraniec

After a quiet period of time in which no player really upped the pace or forced the issue to try and reach a conclusion, Bartosz Szafraniec was all in against Niall Farrell.

The Polish player held {4-Spades}{4-Hearts} and was ahead of Niall Farrell's {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}.

The flop was a safe one for Szafraniec as it came {q-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{6-Spades}, however the {a-Spades} on the turn changed the dynamic, and the {10-Hearts} on the river sealed the deal for Farrell.

The players are now bagging up their chips ready for the final day tomorrow. Stay tuned to PokerNews for a full recap and chip counts.

Roger Andersson

Roger Andersson moved all in from middle position for 323,000. Catalin Pop called from the cutoff and the cards were turned over.

Pop: {a-Clubs}{j-Hearts}
Andersson: {a-Hearts}{3-Hearts}

"We need a three," said Andersson, as Pop's cards were turned over. There was no three on a flop of {9-Spades}{6-Spades}{4-Hearts}, but the {5-Hearts} on the turn opened up straight, flush and straight flush opportunities to go with his three. However, the river was the {8-Spades} and Andersson was eliminated in 11th place.

Simon Hoffmann Eliminated by Oanh Bui

Level 19 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Oanh Bui
Oanh Bui

Catalin Pop raised from early position and Oanh Bui moved all in. In the next position was Simon Hoffmann, who was sitting on a stack of approximately one big blind. He went into the tank.

He played with his chips for a short while, and then sat back in his chair and folded his arms. The dealer reminded him that action was on him and Hoffmann nodded.

In the end Almedin Imsirovic called the clock on him. With the clock ticking down William Kassouf piped up: "You've made the pay-jump," he said pointing to the clock, "There are 38 left." With that Hoffmann moved all in and the remaining players, including Pop, all folded.

Bui: {q-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}
Hoffmann: {j-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}

The flop came {7-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} giving Hoffmann a flush draw. "Everyone loves a sweat," said Kassouf. However, the turn was the {k-Hearts} and the river the {j-Hearts} meaning Hoffmann was eliminated.

"I like those kinds of sweats," said Bui, "The ones where I can't get eliminated I mean!"

Robert Ashelm Eliminated by Miroslav Forman

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Robert Ashelm
Robert Ashelm

After several hands without an elimination on the money bubble, Miroslav Forman raised to 15,000 from the hijack and Robert Ashelm three-bet all in for 140,000 from the big blind. Forman went into the tank as he looked across at action involving Niall Farrell at another table.

The floor staff reminded him that it was hand for hand and Forman nodded. Eventually Catalin Pop, who was seated at Forman's table called the clock on Forman. The tournament official explained the process to Forman, who in turn called the clock on the player whose action it was at Farrell's table.

With the clock running out Forman eventually called, but had to wait for the action to finish on the neighbouring table. When it did so the cards were turned over.

Ashelm: {a-Hearts}{k-Spades}
Forman: {a-Spades}{j-Spades}

Ashelm looked in good shape for a double up on the money bubble, but the flop came {j-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}. The board ran out {4-Clubs}{q-Diamonds} and the remaining 55 players have all locked up €1,997 in prize money. For being bubble boy, Ashelm received a bluetooth speaker from the tournament organisers.
