Palacios Knocks Out Two

Level 10 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Oriol Gregori Palacios appears to have the biggest stack in the room with a stack of 267,000 in chips and just eliminated two opponents in one hand.

Christopher Heidelbacher open-jammed for 9,600 from under the tun and Palacios called from one seat over. The action folded to Gediminas Dirmantas in the big blind and he over-jammed for about 28,000 and Palacios once again called.

Heidelbacher: {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}
Dirmantas: {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs}
Palacios: {K-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}

Palacios had great equity in the hand with both of his opponents holding pocket tens. He took a huge lead in the hand after the flop came {3-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} to give him top pair. The {8-Diamonds} on the turn opened up a flush possibility for Heidelbacher.

However, fate was not on Heidelbacher's side and Palacios won the hand after the {5-Clubs} completed the board on the river.

Kyte Will Try Again Tomorrow

Level 10 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

John Kyte left the tournament arena but on his way out he shared with PokerNews, "See you again tomorrow at 3 p.m."

This is when Day 1c kicks off, so we will expect to see Kyte back in the field after unable to bag chips after two bullets today.

He started off well on his second bullet, so we asked him how he went out. Kyte shared he first got unlucky with pocket aces against six-five before bleeding more chips with queen-jack against king-ten.

Kyte then explained he depleted his stack for the second and final time today after his ace-five was unable to get there against an opponent's ace-king, making it twice this tournament he went out against someone holding the big slick.

Despite the Main Event getting slightly expensive for Kyte, he is in great spirits. It may have something to do that he won €9.500 with a seventh-place finish in the High Roller last night.

Kyte also shared that after Barcelona, he will be heading to Las Vegas in hopes of winning his first WSOP gold bracelet.

Vahdat vs Andersson

Level 10 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Online qualifier John Denis Rafael Andersson and Arvin Vahdat have been sitting next to each other all day but from what we have seen haven't played a ton of pots against each other.

That was a little different in a recent hand. Andersson limped from the cutoff and got called by Vahdat from the button and the two players in the blinds.

Flop: {4-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{2-Hearts}

The player in the small blind checked before the player in the big blind bet 3,000. Andersson called before Vahdat raised to 11,100. Both players in the blinds folded before Andersson asked his opponent, "How much do you have?"

His opponent separated his chips in a way to show Andersson that he had a little more than 60,000 and Andersson called.

Both players checked after the {q-Spades} appeared on the turn and once again after the {6-Diamonds} completed the board on the river.

Andersson turned over {K-Clubs}{10-Clubs} for king-high after missing his flush draws and over cards and the dealer sent the pot over to Vahdat after he turned over {8-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} for a pair.

Mistake Helps Sultanov Win a Hand

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Mistakes can often be costly in poker. However, sometimes a mistake can lead to good fortune as well as was just the case for Viacheslav Sultanov on Table 11.

A player opened up for 3,500 before another opponent three-bet to 8,000. Sultanov thought he was calling a bet of 3,500 and tried to pull back his bet when he found out the bet was for 8,000.

As this is not allowed, Sultanov was forced to call for 8,000 and the early opener called behind.

The action was checked to the player that three-bet after the flop came {4-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} and she jammed for around 25,000. Sultanov quickly called and the early opener exposed a {9-} and got out of the way.

Sultanov had {2-Clubs}{2-Hearts} and just needed to fade a pair of runners to win a big pot and eliminate his opponent. The check mark went Sultanov's way after the {10-Hearts} paired the board and the inconsequential {A-Diamonds} completed the board on the river.

About Half the Field Remains

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

888poker LIVE Barcelona Main Event

The amount of players reentering and late registering has slowed down. The Day 1b field has grown to 213 entrants with 116 players still in their seats.

With 168 entrants during Day 1a, the total field size of the Main Event is now at 381. This number will increase in a big way with a big turnout expected for Day 1c kicking off tomorrow at 3 p.m.

Unlucky Runout Eliminates Khatskevich

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

A hand that required about half the table to take pictures and left Maryna Khatskevich gasping for air just took place on table 19.

Ariel Puterman opened for 5,800 before Khatskevich three-bet to 12,000. The action folded back to Puterman, who four-bet jammed effectively covering the around 38,000 in chips Khatskevich had behind and she snap-called.

Puterman: {K-Hearts}{K-Spades}
Khatskevich: {A-Clubs}{A-Spades}

Khatskevich looked good to double-up and looked even better after both players nailed sets on the {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds} flop. However, the entire table appeared stunned after the {K-Clubs} spiked the turn to give Puterman quads.

Khatskevich was unable to get her case ace after the {5-Hearts} completed the board on the river. The dealer paused the hand for a moment so she and others at the table could take photos.

One player's bad luck is another player's fortune. Nobody at the table could fault Puterman for getting it in when he did and now he is among the chip leaders in the Day 1b field with a stack of 134,000.
