Former 888poker LIVE Winners in Barcelona

Back in 2017 the 888poker LIVE tour headed to Barcelona for the first time and Luigi Shehadeh came out on top of an 609 entry strong field to claim the top prize of €110,000. In 2018, Adrian Constantin and Joel Isla Gonzalo cut a heads-up deal to secure €114,025 each and Constantin won the following duel for the trophy.

In September of the same year, local live poker veteran Sergio Alonso Camunas won the 888poker-sponsored Circuito Nacional de Poker (CNP) stop at the venue. For his efforts in the €550 Main Event, the Spaniard padded his bankroll with a payday of €70,000. Gabriele Rossi then followed in the footsteps of fellow countryman Shehadeh in 2019 to claim €110,000 after topping a field of 551 entries.

Athar Folds the River

Shah Athar

Three ways to the {10-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{8-Spades} river, Shah Athar bet 3,000 in the small blind and Ilan Malka raised to 7,000 in the big blind. Bogdan-Ion Sovaiala folded on the button and Athar immediately smirked.

He eventually folded and the players at the table asked Malka if he had the jack of hearts. "I hope so," Athar grinned and another then remarked "maybe he had the six seven", to which Malka finally replied "same thing"

Fleitas Suarez Doubles Under Bizarre Circumstances

Level 2 : 100/200, 0 ante
Pedro Fleitas Suarez
Pedro Fleitas Suarez

Heads-up to the {k-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{3-Hearts} turn, Pedro Fleitas Suarez checked in the cutoff and then called a bet worth 4,500 by Josep Sanfeliu Manas. The {2-Diamonds} fell on the river and Fleitas Suarez checked once more with 11,200 behind.

Sanfeliu Manas now bet 11,000 and his table neighbour reluctantly moved all-in. Sanfeliu Manas was caught off guard even though he only had to pay 200 more into a very large pot at this stage. He attempted to muck and the dealer alerted the floor to the situation.

It was explained to Sanfeliu Manas that he had to call the extra two chips due to possible collusion, as also explained by other players at the table. He had already admitted to be bluffing and flashed the {10-Spades}{9-Spades} while Fleitas Suarez secured the full double with {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}.

With plenty of chips in the middle to the {k-Spades}{6-Clubs}{5-Spades}{q-Clubs} turn in the last hand before the break, Pedro Fleitas Suarez bet 10,000 with some 16,000 behind. Daniel Fortuno Herrera then pushed all-in for 28,000 total and Fleitas Suarez eventually called.

Picking up the action on the {8-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{6-Clubs} flop, Jenny Giese bet 1,500 from an early position and was called by Bogdan-Ion Sovaiala on the button. Giese bet the {k-Spades} turn for 2,500 to receive a call and then jammed the {k-Hearts} river for 12,400.

Sovaiala instantly called to get shown the {a-Clubs}{j-Hearts} by Giese, which he had beat with {q-Hearts}{6-Hearts} for flopped trip and a rivered full house.

Catalin Ciurea

Jaime Bertran Mainou had 2,200 in front on the button and Catalin Ciurea then pushed for the 10,000 he had behind in the small blind.

As Bertran Mainou was thinking, Ciurea joked "if you fold you get a one round penalty ... gamble gamble". The Spaniard asked for an exact count and made the call.

Catalin Ciurea: {j-Spades}{8-Spades}
Jaime Bertran Mainou: {k-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}

The board ran out {a-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{5-Spades}{6-Spades} and Ciurea was eliminated once more. "Rebuy ..." he said on his way out and shall be back soon.

Eubank Jr Knocked Down to a Short Stack

Level 6 : 200/500, 500 ante
Chris Eubank Jr

Over on the feature table, a preflop all-in contest brought the chips of Chris Eubank Jr and Guillermo Nuez Escribano into the middle in the last hand before the dinner break.

Guillermo Nuez Escribano: {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs}
Chris Eubank Jr: {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}

The 888poker ambassador was ahead but that changed on the {k-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} flop. Neither the {7-Clubs} turn nor the {5-Hearts} river provided any help and Nuez Escribano doubled for 25,300 to leave Eubank Jr with fumes.

Ian Simpson Announced as Newest 888poker Ambassador

Level 7 : 300/600, 600 ante
Ian Simpson
Ian Simpson

Popular British live poker player and online poker streamer Ian Simpson has officially been confirmed as the newest brand ambassador for 888poker. This has been revealed by the operator and the player itself, who has been attending the series at Casino Barcelona and bagged up chips on Day 1a of the €1,100 Main Event.

"I can finally reveal that I’m now an ambassador for 888poker!

I was thrilled when 888 showed an interest in me. I’m gradually getting to know their poker team and it’s invigorating to get to work with people who are simultaneously kind and hard working.

I’ve had the privilege of attending a number of their tremendous live events now, which I will continue to do so in my partnership with them.

In addition I’ll be getting back to streaming on twitch.tv/iansimpsonpoker. We’ve got some exciting ideas for collaboration with their growing stream team, so keep an eye out for the content we’ll be making."

Simpson joined the spotlight in the English-speaking poker community when he won the 2013 Irish Open Main Event for €265,000 and then proposed to his then partner and now wife Emma on the live stream table. Since then, the Newcastle based poker pro has racked up more than $1 million in live poker cashes and represented Unibet Poker throughout the last few years.

On top of the activities on the live poker scene, he has also been streaming his action in the virtual arena regularly and especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Gonzalez Cabau Eliminated in Three-Way All-In

Level 7 : 300/600, 600 ante
Ricard Gonzalez Cabau
Ricard Gonzalez Cabau

Kristian Larsson raised from under the gun and Ricard Gonzalez Cabau then pushed for the last 7,300 from one seat over. It folded all the way to Dimitriy Timoshenko in the big blind, who simply moved all-in with the covering stack. Larsson needed some time to think about it but called all-in as well.

Ricard Gonzalez Cabau: {5-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}
Kristian Larsson: {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}
Dimitriy Timoshenko: {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs}

The {k-Spades}{j-Hearts}{4-Spades} flop improved Timoshenko while Gonzalez Cabau also had a piece with the bottom pair. However, the tides changed once more on the {10-Hearts} turn as Larsson hit a set. Nothing changed on the {8-Spades} river and Larsson knocked out Gonzalez Cabau while doubling through Timoshenko for 19,000.
