Day Two of the €1,100 888poker LIVE Barcelona Main Event Kicks Off

At 4 p.m. local time Day 2 of the €1,100 888Poker LIVE Main Event kicks off where the 122 players who bagged in the first flights will return to be joined by the survivors from the turbo Day 1d flight, which kicked off at 11 a.m. local time, here at the beautiful Barcelona©Casino.

Spaniard Jordi Escriba (209,400) will come into the day as the chip leader having secured the biggest stack late last night in Day 1c. He will be closely followed by Day 1b chip leader Kristian Larsson (206,200) in second as well as Portugal's Nuno Duarte (187,400) in third.

Notable players who secured a bag for Day 2 include 888Poker Ambassadors Alexandre Mantovani (80,200), Vivian Saliba (61,000), Ricardo Mateus (55,900) and Lucia Navarro (45,400). Alexandra Botez didn't manage to secure a bag yesterday but her father Andrei Botez (94,600) comes into the day with over 75 big blinds.

Day 2 levels will extend to 60 minutes in length with the money bubble expected to burst. The blinds will start at 600/1,200 with a 1,200 big blind ante. Late Registration remains open for the first two levels of play.

Zainescu Catches Opponent Bluffing

Level 11 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Action folded around to the small blind who raised to 2,500. Carmen Zainescu was in the big blind and called.

The flop came 4♥3♦2♦ and the small blind bet 1,800. Zainescu quickly called.

Action checked though on the 3♥ turn.

The 7♣ was the river and the small blind led for 2,800. Zainescu called. The small blind tabled Q♣9♣ for a bluff while Zainescu tabled A♠9♠ to take down a pot early in the day.

Saliba Gets Shove Through

There was a raise to 6,500 in the hijack and a call from the button before Vivian Saliba moved all from the small blind around 60,000.

Saliba waved to the camera as she was all in before both opponents folded sending the pot to the 888poker ambassador.

Lechner Wins Back to Back Pots

Level 16 : Blinds 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante

Nils Lechner raised to 8,000 from under the gun and was called by Anton Johnson in the small blind.

The flop came A♦9♥7♥ and Johnson led out for 11,000. Lechner called.

The 3♠ was the turn and Johnson bet 16,000. Again Lechner called.

The river was the 2♥ and Johnson checked. Lechner put out a bet of 25,000 which caused Johnson to fold.

The very next hand action folded around to the cutoff who moved all in for 58,000. Action folded around to Lechner in the big blind who asked for a count. Once the count was made Lechner called.

His opponent wasn't happy to see that his pocket pair was dominated by Lechner's. There was no drama as the board ran out clean for Lechner when it came 8♦5♦5♣8♥6♦ to eliminate his opponent from the tournament.

Xia Gets Paid With Straight

Lin Xia raised to 8,500 from the hijack and was called by the big blind.

The flop came A♥9♥4♣ and Xia bet 5,500 when checked to. The big blind called.

Action checked through on the 3♠ river.

The 5♠ was the turn and the big blind led for 10,500. Xia thought for a moment before raising to 45,000. His opponent burnt through all his time cards before slamming in the call. Xia tabled 2♥2♠ for a rivered straight to take down the pot as the big blind mucked.

Mantovani Exits Tournament

Alexandre Mantovani was seen exiting the tournament area after busting shortly after the dinner break.

Mantovani was one of the last 888poker ambassadors remaining but fellow Brazilian and 888poker ambassador Vivian Saliba remains.

Saliba Eliminated After Bubble

Vivian Saliba was a short stack on the bubble but managed to sneak in the money but was shortly eliminated.

Saliba called out of the big blind against an opponent from middle position.

The flop came Q♥J♣4♦ and Saliba moved all in. Her opponent snap called.

Saliba had bottom pair but needed help as her opponent had middle pair, The turn came the 6♠ and the river the Q♠ which ensured Saliba's elimination.

Botez Bags For Day 3 of the 888poker LIVE Barcelona Main Event

Chess streamer Alexandra Botez has made it through to Day 3 of the €1,100 888poker LIVE Barcelona Main Event as she bagged at the end of Day 2 - along with 26 others from the initial 137 players at the start of day here at the beautiful Casino Barcelona.

Botez will come into Day 3 just outside of the top 10 stacks but will still have plenty to maneuver with on Day 3. Botez was one of the players who registered at the start of Day 2, having failed to secure a bag in Day 1c, but the Canadian managed to spin it up to survive the nine levels of play.

However it was local Albert Grane (1,060,000) who managed to bag the biggest stack of the day followed by Patrick Donohue (1,000,000) who both finished the day well above the rest of the field with over a million chips.

The day started with late registration being open for the first two levels which allowed players a last chance to spin up a stack. Alexandra Botez took advantage by rejoining the action at the start of the day. The 888poker ambassadors started dropping one by one throughout the day. First to be eliminated was Ian Simpson who got it all in with a king high flush draw but couldn't hit a spade on the river to survive.

Although Andrei Botez came into the day with more chips then his daughter Alexandra he was first to be eliminated on the when he moved all in with ace seven only to run into Kimmo Kurko's ace ten.

Alexandra Botez managed to build a stack mid way through the day when she managed to double up with aces against Paolo Boi's pocket sevens in a blind vs blind confrontation.

888poker ambassador Lucia Navarro soon followed Simpson out the tournament area with an early elimination before the dinner break. Fellow ambassador Alexandre Mantovani was fortunate to survive when he got his ace queen in against his opponents ace king and pocket jacks only to go runner runner to hit a straight to triple up. However Mantovani left Vivian Saliba as the lone 888poker ambassador when he fell just after the dinner break.

Saliba was a short stack on the money bubble but managed to survive to make the money after an hour long hand for hand bubble. However the bubble eventually burst when both Gordon Patterson and Jeremy Lyons shared the title of bubble boy.

However Saliba would fall shortly after the bubble as she called from the big blind and moved all in with bottom pair only to be called and eliminated by middle pair when she failed to improve on the turn or river.

The final 27 will return tomorrow at 4 p.m. local time as play will commence until a final table is reached. The blinds will start at Level 20 with 5,000/10,000 with a 10,000 big blind ante. Stay tuned to PokerNews for all the action until a winner is crowned on Monday 22nd May 2023.
