Short Stay for Grigg

Level 2 : 100/200, 0 ante

No sooner had Tom Grigg made his way over to his seat, was he seen eliminated from the tournament.

The hand started with the player under the gun limping into the pot, before facing a raise to 600 from the player in the cut-off. Grigg was on the button, and instantly raised to 1,350. The small blind quickly made the call, as did the other two players, to see the flop come down {10-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{8-Spades}.

The action checked around to Grigg, who made a continuation bet of 2,000, before being met with a quick raise to 5,075. Their opponent’s mucked their cards, as Grigg made the call, to see the turn fall the {4-Spades}. Both players checked as the {K-Clubs} completed the board. The player in the small blind moved all in for just over 14,000 in chips, as Grigg contemplated his decision.

“Argh.. this will be a quick bullet!” sighed Grigg.

He eventually made the call, as his opponent tabled {5-Hearts}{5-Clubs}. Grigg tabled his {7-Hearts}{3-Spades} for a smaller pair, as the other players on the table sat back in surprise.

“It’s all good,” smiled Grigg, as he made his way out of the tournament floor.

Yogo Rivers the Best Hand

Level 3 : 150/300, 25 ante

Iori Yogo has just found a double to move back up to 28,000. We missed the action, but arrived at the table to see Yogo’s remaining 12,350 placed in front of him, with his {10-Spades}{8-Spades} besting his opponent’s {3-Diamonds}{3-Spades} on a board reading {J-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{7-Spades}{9-Diamonds}.

Aston Takes Control

Level 3 : 150/300, 25 ante

The action folded around to Luke McLean in the hijack, who opened to 700. He was called by the button and both blinds, as the board fell {3-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{4-Spades}.

The small blind didn’t waste any time, throwing out a bet of 1,600. Anthony Aston was the player on the big blind, who made the call, as the other two players got out of the way.

The {K-Diamonds} came on the turn, and the small blind threw out another bet of 1,600, which was called, as the {J-Spades} completed the board. For the third time, the small blind led out, this time for 2,400, before being met with an instant all-in for 11,550 from Aston.

The small blind sat there for over a minute, before mucking his hand, exposing the {K-Clubs} for Aston to see. Aston didn’t react, scooping in the pot, and moving back up to 23,000 in chips.

Aristidou Falling

Level 4 : 200/400, 50 ante

We arrived at the table to see the flop showing {9-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{7-Spades}. The player on the big blind checked over to Peter Aristidou, who bet out 1,100 from middle position. He was called, as the {Q-Spades} came on the turn. Again, the small blind check-called a bet of 2,100, as the {6-Diamonds} fell on the river.

The aggression changed, as the small blind led out for 2,500, leaving Aristidou to sit there, contemplating his decision. He eventually mucked his hand, as he drops to 6,000 in chips.

Kroesen Rising, Aristidou Exits

Level 4 : 200/400, 50 ante

Ricky Kroesen’s stack of 45,000, has just been spotted, after he eliminated Peter Aristidou from the tournament.

Aristidou got his remaining 4,750 in pre-flop holding {K-Spades}{J-Clubs}, but was behind to Kroesen, who held {A-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}. The board ran out {7-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{9-Hearts} to see Kroesen’s ace-high hold, sending Aristidou to the rail.

Aston to the Edge

Level 4 : 200/400, 50 ante

It’s either a hard luck story or one of the greatest comebacks of all time. We’ll have to wait and see as Anthony Aston has been to the edge and back over on Table 28. Aston tangled in a hand with Luke McLean on a flop of {9-Spades}{K-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}. Aston had raised preflop and made a continuation bet, which was called by the small blind before McLean check-raised both of them from the big blind. Aston moved all in with his {A-Spades}{A-Clubs} but McLean snapped it off and tabled {6-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} for bottom set.

The turn was the {5-Clubs} and river the {7-Clubs} to give McLean a big double up to over 50,000. When the stacks were cut down, Aston was left with just two 25-denomination chips, or enough for just one 50-chip ante.

Aston was eyeing elimination and stood from his chair in dismay, but managed to spike two pair to win the next hand and multiply his stack to 400. He then did it again with a full house on the very next hand to climb to around 2,000 in chips, or five big blinds. He’s still a long way from getting out of the woods, but if he does, it could be an epic story to tell.
